Are the 49ers NFC West contenders?

Many say yes, including me. They see to be an up and coming team. They have A. Smith, F. Gore, and now Darrel Jackson from the Seahawks. They're not in a tough division anyway. Should be interesting.

    Is Gore going to be healthy this year? So far he is going to miss all of the pre-season due to a broken hand, Darrell Jackson drops more passes than anyone in the history of the NFL, Alex Smith seemed to be up and down last year but shows signs of being a great QB.. I think SF is another year or two away from being a serious contender, the more expierience Smith gets the better he will become but the lack of play-makers at WR might slow them down a little.

    I didn't know about Gore being injured. At any rate, I think they could be a surprise team this year. But I don't really know who to pick in the NFC. The AFC seems so much stronger.

    I think they are another year away but if they can get the previously mentioned offense working right, they might be a future force.

    Gore won't be missing anything by missing preseason games, we all know what he brings. 49ers have as good a chance as anyone. On a related note, is there another division in football more stacked at WR than the NFC west?

    NFC West definitely has some stud WR's in Torry Holt, Anquan Boldin, and Larry Fitzgerald.

    49ers picked up some good help on defense as well. I hope that they contend for a playoff spot at least.

    I hope so. They still need to improve on defense a lot. They were pretty sad in that area last year. Gore will be solid. Getting TE Vernon Davis healthy for the full year will help their offense tremendously. I'm thinking a 9-7 year or with some luck 10-6. They did beat the Seahawks twice last year but I can't see that happening this year.

    It should be an interesting year in the NFL. Lot's of question marks at the RB position for many teams.
