German Medal

I'm looking to find out more about this medal/token. It's obviously a commem for the graf zeppelin circling the globe, I have several silver coins that mark the occasion also. I've found references to other gold commems but never this exact one, and I couldn't find it in the special supplement Krause book.

Anyone know about this one, who the sculptor was? The siginificance of the 3 gentlemen on the face? What's it worth? Does it have a # in a reference text somewhere.

If you're going to collect German Luftfahrt Medaillen then you'll want the comprehensive Luftfahrt reference book written by Kaiser...can't give the particulars now since I'm at work...image

There are a couple of different sizes of this medal. It commemorates the "1st round the world" flight ("I.Weltfahrt des Luftshiffs" ) of the Graf Zeppelin in 1929. The follows on the obverse are described in the legend, from left to right von Zeppelin the inventor, Durr the builder and Eckener the leader/commander. The edge of the variety that I have has the mint and fineness of the gold.

There were a number of special envelopes (covers) prepared for the flight and these are avidly collected as is any Zepp item. Here's a typical example.

Yep, the Germans have a catalog for everything! image

Here's a copy of the one Cacheman referenced (just the first I found online, may not be the cheapest).
