status of numismatics in the philippines...

any comment on the status of numismatics in the philippines?

for me, numismatics here in the philippines is some kind of boring image. i once join the major numismatics society here in the philippines and attended a meeting, it was just all about auction, it was just a place for "Deal or No Deal". I was expecting to gain some knowledge about philippine coins but i learned nothing image. so, i run to the internet...search...and search... and search all about philippine coins. with the internet and worldwideweb, now i learned more about philippine coins. i've learned so much specially from this forum.. image

guyz, i wanna here from you bout what you think on the status of NUMISMATICS here in the philippines

  • Jeepers Jepoy, I had a different experience of the numismatic scene in the Philippines than you. I found many dealers who studied numismatics and were happy to share their knowledge with me, over crispy patta, kare kare, or chicharon bulocklok(sp).

But if you meet them in an auction venue, of course, the dealers are going to be interested in bid/ask ... deal/no deal. Next time you go to a pnas or bns auction, take one of the dealers out for a beer or two, plus crispy patta, and I'll bet you'll learn a ton.

    Warm regards,

    justhavingfun,

ah, ok. or maybe i was just too young then when i joined the club, 20years old, so i felt out of place because most of them were professionals. maybe i'll try to join again in one of those clubs and talk to dealers over some beer and 'pulutan' like crispy pata, kare kare and chicharon bulaklak image .

    thanks,

    Welcome Jepoy!

    I concur with Mr. Fun.

Attend each and every auction. There are 4 different numismatic organizations that hold auctions about twice a month (usually on Sundays at the QC Sports Club).

Pull some of the old timers aside and talk coins. Start with Paul de Jesus from PNAS and go from there.

Good luck and enjoy the hobby.
