  • Tonight's our draft!
Do we just go to our league's homepage and then once the draft begins, it will become apparant what to do?
Or is the best way just to rank the players and hope for the best.
I'm not new to ffb, but have never used an online draft yet except for autodrafts, so any help on exactly what will be going on will be appreciated
Good luck to all of you !

My first time at this and I think I had a rough draft. Went in totally unprepared.

It is all a crap shoot. I missed the 4 first rounds and they are my best players LOL. I live in Cinti and the computer picked Rudi as my first pick. NICE

  • Nothing wrong with Rudi, he;s a top 10 and i think he'll have a great year. Let's see if you lament that pick down the road. I bet you will be pleasantly suprised.

jimq, I think that you're more solid than you think, except the RB situation has a bit of a dropoff after mr jackson. and you need more of them. When I saw that we could start 4 RB's, I began gobbling up anyone with a half decent shot at putting up numbers. Ahman Green may be a giant pick for you. no one I'd really cut right away either.
I would also suggest picking a defense a little later, since i don't think there was going to be a stampede to get it. Not that they won't shine for you, but you could have probably gotten them much later in the draft, maybe round 10 or 11?

Anyway, I made some blunders too, but This was the first time i ever did a live online draft and I had an absolute blast. I am the So. Central Rockcats in our league, and I really look forward to playing our games. Thanks alot to whoever got this started up. This is gonna be really entertaining

PS-- I think we should all figure out a fairly low stakes prize for the winner. (and or runner up and how ever far you want to go with it.)
It would be fun to finish in the top 4 or so and get something random in the mail. Please think this over. I would think it's cool to get any cards in the mail, and hope that we can put something together.

Thanks Steve - I had somebody picked and ready to draft, and the guy before me picked him. I guess I just grabbed Packers defense on the rebound. I like Turner in case something happens to LT, if I remember right he wasn't all that bad in real limited duty.

I didn't know we could start 4 RBs. I have some work to do I guess image

I also agree with the idea of having a prize for the winner and runner up at least.

yeah once I figured out you can start 4 RBs I realized I was screwed already. I have 5 but only 3 real starters and I think I already have a droppee with Mike Bell.

At least you knew. I found out on this board this morning. I looked and there's nobody really worth bothering to take. I'm new so I have real low expectations.

How about a consolation prize for the last place team? maybe a psa 1 card?

I like Rudi as my pick. It was ironic that I got him thats all. I only am complaining about the players I picked, not the computer.

I'm not complaining, we're all newbys once and this is my turn. I had a blast drafting and I think it'll be fun even if I lose.

  • I was the 8th pick. I think I did pretty good overall. I am a little week in RB's, but should make it back with a fine WR crew.

    QB - Tom Brady
    QB - Brett Favre
    WR - Steve Smith
    WR - Terrell Owens
    WR - Reggie Brown
    WR - Chris Henry
    RB - Carnell Williams
    RB - Fred Taylor
    RB - Sammy Morris
    RB - LenDale White
    TE - Tony Gonzales
    TE - Benhamin Watson
    K - Shayne Graham
    K - Olindo Mare
    DEF - Philadelphia

One of my late picks was a third TE, who I have dropped and am trying to pick up another defense with it.

  • I had the third pick- the obvious top 2 were gone, and i kind of think that the next 8 or so backs were all about equal. And man, alot of names drop off until you get to draft again! So my team is full of solid, yet not spectacular players. No matter how good or bad our teams look on paper, injuries will be happening and things can change in a hurry. Fantasy FB sure makes Sundays fun though, win or lose. We'll all have a blast.

I got a pm from a Gary offering to collect and ship out the prizes we come up with. Hmm.

Whoever made that fairly late Cutler pick bummed alot of us out. at least me anyway.

I am also for giving out prizes. And, while I perfer someone else do it, I would be willing to hold said prizes until the season is over. Perhaps $20 in PSA cards, which is one or two nice modern PSA 10's or perhaps a nice 1970's HOF PSA 9?

I have pretty good creditials, you can google me and get a few hundred hits, and I am the Treasure for two organizations, which I haven't taken all the money from and ran to Mexico.....yet...image

Or perhaps we can impower the commish to be prize holder as well. (Everyone should also send $1-2 with the cards to help them get to seasons winners).

Anyway. if this sounds good, we could go 8 prizes to the winner, 3 to the second place and 1 to the third place....or something like that.

Feel free to suggest a different payout, prize value or whatever.

    Hey guys,

Great draft !! About all the RBs, I intended there to be 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 'flex' position (either RB or WR). I guess I made it 2 flex spots instead, and by the time I noticed it (the draft) it was too late !! Sorry about that. Just makes the rosters deeper, and a lot of us have 2nd 3rd string RBs and WRs. So, we have the option of starting 4 RB/2 WR, 3 RB/3 WR, or 2 RB/4 WR. Some teams are very strong at RB. Mealeworm has Rudi, Ronnie Brown and Cedric Benson. Others at WR.

Oh, and I wanted Cutler big time.

For example: 575 pass attempts, 56.7% completion, 71.2 passer rating, 3739 yds. 26 TD/28 INTs. That is Peyton Manning rookie season, better than 95% of rookie QBs.

Here is Carson Palmer's rookie season: 432 attempts, 60.9%, 77.3 rating, 2897 yds, 18 TD/18 INT. Again, not too shabby and a great indication of future performance as long as the surrounding personnel remains solid.

Cutler's rookie season was only 5 games. At first glance his 1001 yds and 9 TD/5 INT is good but not great. But over 500 attempts, it looks like this: 59.1% completion, 88.5 rating, 3653 yds, 33 TD/18 INT.

I'm not saying he's a lock for those stats, but with his arm and Shanahan's solid offense system, he has as good chance as any 2nd year QB.

Here is the rest of my team. I had 5th pick. I was hoping against all hope that one the 'next best 3' (Jackson, Johnson, Gore) would fall to me and Gore did when Addai was taken #4.

    QB1 Carson Palmer, Cin (2nd Round/20th Overall)
    QB2 Jay Cutler, Den (10th/116th)
    RB1 Frank Gore, SF (1st/5th)
    RB2 Deuce McAllister, NO (4th/44th)
    RB3 Chester Taylor, Min (7th/77th)
RB4 Kevin Jones, Det (9th/101st) <---RBs got thin near the middle of the draft
    WR1 Reggie Wayne, Ind (3rd/29th)
    WR2 Braylon Edwards, Cle (6th/68th)
    WR3 Derrick Mason, Bal (11th/125th)
    WR4 Mike Furrey, Det (15th/173rd)
    TE1 Todd Heap, Bal (5th/53rd)
    TE2 Randy McMichael, StL (12th/140th)
    K John Kasay, Car (13th/149th)
    DEF1 New England (8th/92nd)
    DEF2 Carolina (14th/164th)

Team Role Model Mike Vick, ex-Atl (16th/198th)

I'm pretty happy with it. I didn't know Kevin Jones was hurt until after the draft.

Prizes would be great. I'm sure we can work soemthing out. Something in the neighborhood of $25-30 sounds pretty reasonable.

    Have fun guys,

    Ian

Yes, I know that, he was a very late round pick. So needless to say I will not be using him the first of the season, but he may make one of the R/W positions later on. I am not short in the recievers as I have 2 of the top 3 projected.

    Meteorite Guy,

You and the Bolts loaded up on receiver. That definitely made it tough for the rest of his to field a decent receiving core.

How bout this for the prizes...for the baseball league, what we're doing is the top three win cards. The bottom nine contribute cards to the 'pot,' so nobody is sending any cards until the end. Then, the 9 tell which cards (same value, about $25) they are contirbuting, and the Winner chooses 4, the runner-up then chooses 3, and the 3rd place finisher gets the other two.

I like what we're talking about better. More of a surprise and it will be more cards to the winners. Everyone contributes the pot before the end of the season. I don't mind collecting them, but we can decide that later. Then, the winner chooses 5 out of the pot, the runner-up then chooses 4 out of the 7 remaining, and the 3rd place finisher gets the last three. The only issue is that the last guy might end up with the card that he purchased. The again, if I like the card I purchased, I might like to have it back anyway.

Chime in with what you guys think we should do. Do the prize cards have to be football ? Because I don't own any PSA graded football cards. Guess I could just buy a couple. Would football or baseball be good for everyone ??

    Ian
  • I like your ideal with the prizes Ian....also I do not care football or baseball, but I don't know about the others.

    Mark, and everyone else,

If we're gonna do the prizes, pretty much everyone has to agree to it. Just can't tell people they have to give up cards. Obviously, I'm for it. Before we decide who's collecting them, let's hear if everyone wants to do that. I think it would be great.

Put in your $.02 on the matter, Everyone.

I say prizes can be FB or baseball. Should be between 15 and 25 in value and RC's. Examples PSA 9 Frank Thomas RCs, PSA 9 Barry Sanders Pro Set, 1983 PSA 8 Tony Gwynns. There's a big list of cards like this out there I would think most people would have 1 laying around.
