Weird date Mexican 5 centavos

This 1874 5 centavos from Mexico has a strange looking date. It appears as if two different styles of numerals were used. Is this the 1874 "crude date" from the Chihuahua mint (KM# 398.1)? Does anyone know of a recent sale of one on Ebay or elsewhere?

Haven't seen one in person, but it's listed as "Chihuahua - very crude date" in my 1963 edition of "Mexican Decimal Coins" by Theodore V. Buttrey. He lists this variety as the only one produced by Chihuahua that year and lists it as $4.25 in VF / $6.00 in XF. Keep in mind these are 1963 prices image In anyway - awesome coin that gives us an insight into the inner workings of the Chihuahua mint at the end of 19th Century image

    Super pick-up!

Krause also lists this variety as the only 5 centavos type produced in 1874 and lists it as $50 in VF / $75 in XF (KM#398.1).
  • Larry Hanks' "Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Republic Mexican Coins" lists this date/mint combination as "very crude date".

I usually take his prices and times by 10, every Mexican coin collector should have that book.

That is a cool variety. Someday I will be able to shake my coin ADD and stick with one country for awhile. Currently back into liteside stuff.... don't hate me! image
MS66 taste on an MS63 budget.
