Parkhurst Hockey Card Numbering Question

I had this question asked to me and I don't know the answer, can anyone here help?

Price guides list the 1957 Parkhurst cards with the letter M before the card number. Does anyone know why?

Parkhurst cards featured only players from the two Canadian teams: Toronto (T) and Montreal (M). The letter (T or M) was used to distinguish whether it was a Toronto or Montreal player because for some reason the players were not numbered 1 through 50 in that set, but rather M1 through M25 and T 1 through T25.

I didn't even put it together that Parkurst only made cards for Toronto and Montreal players in 1957- something that they also did in 1955 but not before (and not after 1957 if I'm not mistaken).
