Question about puting cards in protective cases

just wondering if people here only place certain cards in certain cases.
ex: only cards worth over xx$ go in screw downs, and all cards under x$ only go in penny sleeves

just wondering what everyone does

  • This is a great question, hope to hear other answers.

    1. All the cards that I would like graded I put in Cardsaver I's w/penny sleeve. Regardless of worth and store in boxes sorted by year, sport and type.

    2. All cards worth $10 or more I put in a 1 screw holder from econosafe. You can buy 200 for $80 w/ free shipping

    3. All card $1-$10 I put in sleeves and a top loader.

    4. All commons in complete sets from the mid 80's to earlier I put in sleeves, as well as duplicate commons from 1980 and earlier.
For modern like Heritage, I put all commons in penny sleeves. But I don't put the crap commons from late 80's and 90's in sleeves. Just a waste of time and money.

  • Be careful when using any of the thick screwdowns.
ALWAYS use a penny sleeve before cranking down the screws or the cards will become stuck to the lucite after a period of time.
Any card I have ever purchased in a screwdown comes out and goes into a penny sleeve and topload while the screwdowns (along with the velvet pouches) are thrown in the trash..

I hate screw downs because they are notorious for ruining the face of cards if any dust or grit gets under them before tightening, and that's with a penny sleeve. I use top loaders almost exclusively. One of my favorite tricks for placing cards in penny sleeves without ruining corners is to cut one of the corners off maybe an 1/8th of an inch down or less, that way the lagging corner of the card can't catch on its way into the sleeve. That's especially good for loading non-traditional card stock into penny sleeves.

I put all my cards in binders/pages except for those that book for over $15-$20; those go in mini-tites because they seem to give the same protection as the screw down holders but these fit in a standard box.
