Check out this jackass...

I got the following e-mail from an eBay member:

Last second bidding does not work. It is such a fallacy. People that know what they are doing only bid one time and bid the maximum amount they will pay for the card. For example, I placed my maximum bid. No matter what you bid or when you bid, it does not matter. I only bid against myself and the maximum amount I will pay for the card(s). The people that understand and know how to bid approach auctions this way.

People, such as yourself, that bid at the very end of an auction is not a surprise to most of us. We expect someone to try that on most auctions. Hence, bid one time the maximum amount. Pretty simple and useful concept. That allows us "informed" bidders to do something besides sit in front of the computer waiting for the end of an auction. Most of us have better things to do.

Good luck in the future with your end of auction bids.

He sent the e-mail about 1 minute after the auction ended. I guess the hypocrite has never heard of a snipe program.

edited to add: I guess I had a snipe set on an auction that he was the high bidder on and he was bitter that I bid at the last second. He won the lot.

this is in fact what happened: he himself sat in front of a computer waiting to win, and when your bid came in at 6 seconds left, he wanted to start crying like a little girl..

What a dork! I think he's bitter due to the fact that you pushed him up
more. Zef, do you remember what was the difference in price before your snipe
    to the winning price?

Edited: Matt, I stole your Beavis & Butthead GIF and I'm going to add it to my auctions image

  • << <i>what a dumbass.. >>

    AGREED!

If he sent the email that fast, then he probably sends the same response to everybody that tries to snipe him at the last minute. It sounded pretty generic.

I say we all email him telling how much money we save by sniping by using a snipe service and its idiots like him that drive up the price of auctions .

He was the only bidder at the $2.99 opening bid.

after my snipe he won the item for $12.38. I cost him nearly $10.

I'm in! What's his ID? This scenario sounds familar. Remember awhile back there
was that one guy "ihatelastminutebidders" or "lastminutebidderssuk" or something like that? Then everyone
started sniping all the auctions he was interested in LOL.

    This is my favorite part:

"Last second bidding does not work. It is such a fallacy."

and then literally two sentences later.....

"No matter what you bid or when you bid, it does not matter."

So does it matter or not? I can't tell. If it doesn't matter, why the email? Make up your mind.

Jordan I've been watching a card that I just today decided I couldn't live without. It's a psa 8 card, one of about 50 with 2 higher. In the last couple hours a bidder is trying to scare off other bidders by bidding a few dollars higher. He singlehandedly brought the card from $66 to $83. I was going to snipe at $106 or so but now I'm not sure if that idiot will have already passed $106 by then!

Sometimes I wonder how much extra people cost themselves by driving the price up, trying to scare off the competition or trying to win the auction before it ends. Sellers love it but as a buyer I think it's stupid.

Last second bidding is the only way to keep your emotions out of it. It keeps me from the "I NEED to WIN" mentality that costs us so much money. Geez, if you don't get it there might just be another one later and there might just be one less guy in competition for it.

You should follow the guy around and snipe the stuff he bids on just to cost him money. He'll learn to bid in the last second.

I agree with this statement whole heartedly. That is the main reason I snipe.

    Sounds like someone is bitter.

Still don't understand why people don't snipe. It costs more money not to have a service..

I fart in his general direction.

<< <i>I do need to add that I have a few pet peeves regarding people and their bidding patterns on Ebay. I absolutely laugh when I see a bidder increment his/her bid by $1 until they finally get the top bid. People, if you are willing to pay that much money to begin with, just put down that bid the first time. Secondly, there is a small fraction of bidders that I like to call "snipers" as they wait until the last few seconds of an auction to place a bid with the hope they can win the card without any counter bids placed, hence, trying to keep the bid amount down. I will tell any of you snipers that may actually read this "about me"...if I want the card, need the card for my collection, sniping my bids will not work as I put in the maximum dollar amount on my first bid on almost all auctions. To get a card I want, you better be ready to pay some excessive money....I will put a bid higher than I want to pay just so the sniper can not win the auction. You people know who you are. >>

Like I stated earlier, he probably sends the same generic email to everybody who tries to snipe him.

I've used both methods, depending on a lot of factors, chiefly whether or not I was going to be close to a computer at the end, but I can't imagine actually contacting someone to lecture them about the superiority of any method, just out of the blue. That's a bit cracked.

I bid early 1 of every 10 auctions and snip the rest. The only time i bid early is on cards that I know will sell very low( 1959 Football PSa 7's go for around $4) I put my $4 bid in first and if I'm first at that price. If I lost I know someone payed too much, but if I get it, I didn't. Anything over that sniping and hope to win with a low ball snipe. Joe

For a long time you could search that way, then to protect people's privacy and security ebay did away with it for a few months and you could only search ended auctions. I guess it cost them too much revenue and revenue is more equal than security or honesty.

I read a similar "mission statement" from a shortstop using the name basestealerssuck:
You know who you are. You run down to second base, and at the last second, you slide down real low, so I can't tag you with my glove. Why don't you play fair and stay just as tall as you were when you were running towards the base. I'll fix you next time, I'll stand in your way and tag you as you're going by. You've been warned!
  • OMG what a moron. Man, I guess I've been doing it wrong all along. I've always waited till the very end of an auction to bid. But now that I'm using Gixen I wait until it has 4 seconds left and I'm not at the computer all day. Jeez, it's too bad there isn't a strain of anti-stupid virus laying around so we can get rid of the idiots.
  • What a complete tumor.
  • In a perfect world, this guy is right- you bid your maximum and then walk away. At the end of the auction, you'll only bid what you're comfortable paying and never a penny more.

However, that's not what happens in the real world. Everybody wants to only pay the bare minimum they can for any item, and not a penny more. Your bid pushed him about his initial bid, and it sounds like him spending the extra $10 pissed him off. There was an easy solution to this- he shouldn't have bid $15 (or whatever he bid) if he didn't want to pay that. I've lost several auctions by bidding 50¢ more than the opening bid, and then when someone bid more than me, I didn't worry about it. If I won an auction for $1.50, fine, if I lost it at $2.00, that's fine too. I'd rather lose an auction like that then suffer buyer's remorse for paying $40 for a $10 item by entering into a bidding war.
