What will Bond's final HR tally be; and how long will he hold the record until......

A-Rod breaks it?

I think Bond's will play for 2-3 more years in the AL as a designated hitter simply to add to his HR record total and to his bank account. I think he will shoot for at least 800 jacks before he retires.

He won't hold the record for 33+ years like Aaron nor 40+ years it was held by Ruth. I expect that A-Rod (if he stays healthy and continues to play) will catch and pass Bonds by the time he is 41.

  • I don't know if Bonds is really going to play anymore after this year...I just don't see how any team is going to put up with him playing 120 games or so and pay him the money he wants. Throw in the negative publicity and the strain his presence puts on the clubhouse from the constant media crush and you don't have a recipe for winning.

I suspect he'll end about 765 or so this year, and that will be it.

Arod has by far the best chance to break it, but to say it's a foregone conclusion is tough...he'll need another 300 home runs (which is a total only 114 guys have hit in their careers) on top of the 500 he has now to get there. If Arod does break it, I see him doing it when he's 42, 43.

Bonds won't get the money he thinks he deserves anywhere other than SF, because they are the only ones that think a 43 year old, with no range, no speed, and declining offensive production is worth $17 million/year. I too think he hangs em up after this year.

I say he is going to play one more year, as far as Arod or Pujols breaking the new record they certainly are capable but you NEVER know, look how Griffey got hit with the injury bug, otherwise he would be right up there.
  • arod could break it by the time he is 38.

bonds wont play much longer, i give him 1-2 years ,IF somebody picks him up,and i think thats apretty big if,he could always lurk around for a while as a dh,he cant run anymore, but if he keeps hittin em somebody might take him???

  • He will play at least one more year and not really because of the HR totals. He needs a little under 90 hits for 3,000 and I'm sure he wants that badly. If some of those hits come via HR, then it will be icing on the cake.
