Can anyone tell me if this is of any significant rarity?

Is that a franc or a 2-franc? Looks like a 2- I guess that is what the partial inscription on the 2x2 says.

The "Chamber of Commerce" series are fairly common coins, but I haven't seen any with doubling.

My guess is that it might be somewhat scarce, but not a significant rarity. Cool piece.

Wayne- surely you have come across those in your bulk bag searches? I get 'em all the time. I will send you a couple if you want. (Sans doubled dates, of course).

  • Nice find!
Looks like the 'open 4' variety which lists at a dollar in VF.

  • I have a bunch of these as well and yes it is the 2 Franc. But I just wanted to know if anyone has ever seen one like this before. I know I haven't.
  • Actually that is Machine Doubling caused by die chatter or bounce from a loose die, not a double die.
  • Thanks, does it add anything to the value.

Machine doubling is not worth a premium, no.

However, lots of people can't tell the difference (including me, most of the time), so if it were auctioned I would imagine it would command a slight premium anyway.
