Opinion on these 75 Topps.......

I asked a seller for some more scans of some of the star cards from a set he is selling, Would like to get everyone's opinion on the grade of these 75's.
I have already seen the Brett and Yount and they look great. i am thinking of selling my 75 Topps registry set that is about 36% complete and graded all Psa 8 and just getting a nice raw nrmint-mt raw set.

I'm sure they were all cut from a sheet at one time or another.lol
The thing that stood out with me about these cards is there is almost no chipping and gloss is super.
The guy said he paid over $700 for the set from Rocky mountain sports a long time ago, Sometime in the 80's I believe.

I sure wouldn't mind having that set. Just don't be surprised if the bidding actually goes OVER the $500 BV. Super nice raw 70s sets seem to be absoulte red hot at the moment (I saw a 1977 set bidding for $350 with a few hours left; pretty hefty price tag for a raw set but those cards did look like blazers). I just better hope they start going back down once enough people try to "cash in" on sending all those cards in to get PSA 9's and 10's.

And I must say you're doing the right thing by switching to a raw set. It's much more affordable and more enjoyable to get to view the cards in binder/pages.

Other than the Aaron 660 and the Schmidt, they all look like nicely centered beauties.

I have bought plenty of cards that looked that nice in a pic like that only to get them and they are ex-mt. Unless they are scanned in at a decent resolution, it really is a crapshooot on the condition. Could be 6-7 could be mostly 8's. At that distance you really can't get an accurate feeling for the corners and edges.

I know that you are probably thinkin that since the borders are colored that you would be able to see white if the corners aren't sharp. That's not always the case. Anyone who has bought many of these raw or similar colored sets(63 Topps FB, 67 Philly FB) can attest that the pics can certainly look better than the cards.

If you pull the trigger, I hope that is not the case here. GL.

I agree with zef. Maybe it's just my luck, but I've been invariably disappointed when buying raw cards on ebay based on a good-looking scan. Even NM cards look mint scanned, as it's almost impossible to notice the tiny flaws and defects in a pic that would knock a card down from a 9 to a 7. If you're just looking for a decent looking set, that's fine (and bid accordingly), but if you're looking for Mint cards, graded is the only way to assure yourself that you won't be disappointed, and many of these cards are dirt-cheap in PSA 8 grade.

As zef says, the pic is way too "distant" to properly assess condition. I would expect at least a good percentage of those to be EX-MT.
