shipping date discrepancy

I recently bought some cards from Fallclassicmn July 17, I paid on the 17th. I got a e-mail the 27th of July saying that my cards were just sent. I sent an e-mail thrusday August 2 about the cards and he said I should receive it anyday, I did receive it the next day the 3rd. What bothered me about this transaction was the postmark on the package it was not the 27th as the seller claim but it was the 31, why lie about sending a package. I check his feedback and they recently had the same situation hapen to another buyer. That buyer gave him a neutral and Fallclassic gave him a negative for poor communication. I think a neutral is certainly justifiable but a negative no way. I guess this buyer save me from maybe getting a negative but it shows that sometimes being honest will hurt your feedback score.
