Derek Jeter w/ 2 outs and RISP

watching the Sox game, I thought I heard Don Orsillo (NESN play-by-play guy) say that Jeter leads the league batting .488 with two outs and runners in scoring position. Is this true? If so, put that man in the HOF now, he's awesome. That's an incredible stat. That's clutch to me. Damn, I hate Jeter, he's too good.

  • Yes he is batting that this year, but it is just 43 at bats.

Given enough at bats in the same situation, his batting average would revert to the mean, say, over the last 3 years, in 212 at bats in the same situation, where he's batting .302 with RISP and 2 outs, which is right in line with his career .317 BA.

oh no...stop it barndog...how can you say that about the most overrated player that ever was!!!??? You are just looking for a whinefest from our resident Axhole!

But seriously, yeah it is an incredible stat. And people wonder why Yankees fans love Jeter so much.

I've seen enough of him to hate him. He's the guy that I DON'T want up with the game on the line.

"JUST" 43 at bats...I think most teams would LOVE a guy that can do that 16 times of 43!!! How that can be downplayed is beyond me. Same with a .302 RISP w/2 outs in the past 3 years. I dont know who the leaders are in the league and what their averages are but that is not at all anything to sneeze at regardless of what their career average is. It has to be near the top of leaders in this type of category.
  • I wasn't downplaying anything, just pointing out that 43 at bats is far too small a sample size to base a long term prediction on. Looking at a much larger sample size gives a much better representation of what he does, which is perform well. I wasn't sneezing at a .488 BA with RISP and two outs, simply putting it into context.
