Yup, I would put them right down there with bgs
  • My same old jokes.............

    GEM stands for

    Good
    Eye
    Missing

    Gee
    Everythings
    Mint

    Gets
    Easy
    Money

Once I dropped my pencil in a sub to them and it came back slabbed as a authentic mini bat. lol

Heres a GEM card. Mispelled Ripken, Off center. I cracked it out and theres a indention on the surface, not a proof. Blah.

  • I have to admit this......I bought two of GEM 10's and they graded MINT 9's from PSA. One was an '85 warren moon and the other an '81 dan hampton, obviously there was very little risk because I think I paid a total of seven dollars for both. I would never buy anything significant though.

I'm not too sure about that bottom right corner, and the centering's a bit iffy.

I have purchased 6 cards last year on eBay from GEM Mint and GEM Grading Inc. which were all graded 10 GEM MINT.

When I brought them to PSA to submit them for a crossover I expected to have them down graded 1 or two grades.

What I didnt expect is that they would all come back as showing evidence of trimming or re-touched when I received the cards back.

I notified both companies and sent them numerous messages only to be completely ignored.

I filed a complaint with eBay and the FBI' at their Internet Fraud Website.

I hope one day they all end up in jail!

My advice (take or leave it as you please) is to steer clear of these companies completely

I had two GEM cards that were purchased in a lot. Cracked them out and resubmitted to PSA expecting the worst.

GEM 9 1955 Roberto Clemente I thought might be trimmed came back PSA 5.

GEM 8 1953 Satchel Paige (had a crease too!) I figured PSA 2-3 came back PSA 3.

I guess I got lucky, they were only off by 4-5 grades...

GEM is usually spot on, always good to submit them in their holders.

Buying Gem is like buying raw. Sometimes you win the gamble sometimes you lose the gamble. Only benefit of GEM is the card comes to you protected. Odds are many modern in GEM holders are legit. Anything vintage and of value is bound to be trouble. If I had a 1950s-70s rookie in NM or better condition why would I leave potentially 100's of dollars on the table to put that card in a GEM slab? Caveat Emptor when buying GEM.

Hey, my 100th post. Do I win a prize?????

I wish I had copied the check.

I actually got a REFUND from Gem Grading!

I sent them a card that I accidentally bought when I was new to ebay - it was my mistake - but as I knew, it came to me missing about 1/16" T/B!

I enclosed a copy of the invoice and they paid me! The guy I bought it from was still foaming at the mouth because I did a charge back pending the result from Gem.

He was Kane04 - who wound up calling me and apologizing for the whole thing when his name came up here on the boards about this whole thing a few years ago.

Sometimes it's a strange, strange world - this thing we call a hobby?
