Napolean pinback

This is a little smaller than the size of a US nickel and appears to be made of silver. It appears to be uniface as there are no lettering or devices on the reverse...only a broken pin. Do you think that it's from the time of Napolean or something made fairly recently?

How much does it weigh? What kind of metal does it look to be made of?

Given that it calls him "Napoleon I", it probably isn't a lifetime issue. I suspect it might have been made by the Bonapartist faction in France in the early to mid 1800's that eventually brought Napoleon III to power.

Though I do note that the E doesn't have the acute mark above it, like it often has when his name is written in French. If that's "in English", then I'd assume it was issued by American sympathisers - it sure wouldn't have been issued by British ones!

I believe that it's made of silver and weighs 3.1 grams. It's 20mm in diameter.

Definitely not contemporary to Napoleon Bonaparte.

From the style, it looks to be from around the turn of the 19th/20th century. Early 1900s, would be my wild guess.

One wonders why someone would make a pin like that after 1900. image

Same reason they still make pins and medals and stuff with people like George Washington on 'em.
