51 Red Back Question

I know that these packs were literally found in cases many years ago. There was a long period of time when it seemed dealers couldn't give these boxes away. I know the packs are relatively common and the prices of the graded packs reflect that fact. High grade PSA cards go for a lot of dollars by comparison. Round cornered cards seem to hold up well and centering is always hit and miss, but that big of a hit. Is there a manufacturing problem or a aging issue with those packs that were found that would make them not pracitica to open for high grade cards? This is onee of the few times when it looks like it might be cheaper to open packs than to buy pre-graded. What am I missing?

automatic 5.
FWIW, 33% of cards ever graded from the Red Back set achieve a 5 or 6 grade, and I imagine that 98% of those achieve that grade simply because of the wrinkles.
It did not seem to make a lot of sense that the pack would be low with the cards so high.
I figured there must be reasons I did not know of because certainly i was not the first with this observation or idea.
Now it seems we all have a better idea.
Thanks,
