with the latest 83 baseball rip i seen a few people had interest in a 1986 football rip. whats the possibility of having enough people to get one going?
I will ask Steve if he has a 1986 Football case when I see him Friday at the show. If he has one (or can find one), I will get the "per box" details from him, and relay all that info to the original poster to do with what he wishes.
nam812 that would be great if you could find out something for us. as far as doing what i wish. i just want to buy a box. we could send our money straight to steve and he could send the cards straight to the people who buy in. hopefully we get some good news.
The last thing I've seen that was close was a sealed 86 rack case that I was going to split with ping. It was his fault we didn't get it because he told me not to bid too much.
Actually, that's a joke. My snipe was set to where I was comfortable, but someone else's was a bit higher. It went for something like $2300, which works out to $760 a rack box ($380 a box if they were wax). Since then, a lot more hype has generated around the 86 set. I would expect to pay $375-$425 per box. I regret not bidding higher on the rack case, but who knows how high the winner would go. I know Kevin from Elitecards sold a bunch of case-fresh boxes with no problem at $400 a box a while back.
I talked with Nick aka Nam812 today, he said he asked Steve about a case and Steve told him he hasn't seen a case of 1986 wax in about five years. Looks like we might have to find something else for our next rip, Lee jump in here your supposed to be picking this time around.

I heard the Steph's closet has a 1/2 case of resealed 86's....
If football's what everybody wants to do, 84 is a great choice because of multiple nice RCs (Marino, Elway, Dickerson, Morten Anderson, Roger Craig, Howie Long.....). Should be around $450 a box, but again, not sure if you can find a case. Each box, if clean, should yield about 4-6 PSA 10s total.
- 1985, as Boopotts once put it, is fools gold. PSA 10s go for a lot, but you're lucky to get 2 out of a box. Since most PSA 9s are worthless (except for a couple), I would say the likelihood of getting your money back are slim to none.
- 1981 is ok, but if you don't pull a decent Montana you're throwing your money down the drain.
Anything before that is almost impossible to find sealed cases of. My suggestion would be to do a combo rip of multiple boxes. For around $250, you could do a box of 1982, 1983, 1987, 1988. No one's going to break the bank, but it's a lot of ripping, and a lot of great undervalued RCs. The problem would be locating all those cases, but none of them are that difficult to find.
Nick just called me again and said Steve thought he could get us a case of 1984 Topps if there was enough interest, but he did not have a firm price yet, I'm sure he can get us a price next week when he returns from the National.

Pretty much right on the money except imo there are a lot of low pop psa 9s that could yield some bucks in 1985. The boxes are SO MUCH cheaper than 84 and 86 that I think its a quality rip. 81 is a brutal rip, you could pull a 9 montana and still lose money. 84 and 86 have tons of low pop cards that bring nice money even in 9s. Just sold an 86 dorsett 9 for $90 for example.

I bid $2525 I think and it went for $2700.
That was the good rack not the bleh grocery rack.
I ripped a Cello box from Steve last fall.
First 15 or so packs, NOTHING.
Ended up with a a Rice, 3 Youngs, and probably 3 of each of the others worth having.
Usual centering problems, but that's the fun of taking the 'chance'.
