Don't you hate when people jerk you around?!

I have made several trades this week over the internet, but twice I have had people jerk me around and that is so annoying ! I had a high end very unique patch/auto card on ebay with Buy It Now and accepting Best Offers. A guy emails and wants to know if I trade. I tell him it would have to be something good. He offers a nice card and I spend about 3 days emailing him and ironing out the cash/trade deal. So he makes an offer and I agree. Then he tells me he really likes his card and he does not think he can trade it. THEN DO NOT OFFER IT IN TRADE. I don't want to force anyone into a deal or muscle them, but why would you offer a card you have no intention of getting rid. He was the one that made the offer and I accepted, then he wants to back out.

Then last night on these boards there was a card listed on the B/S/T board and I contacted the member (I won't mention any names) and asked what he wanted for the card. He quoted me a price said it was even negotiable. I had some cards that the member mentioned in their post as needing for a set, so I offer a cash /trade. A couple hours and many PMs later, they make me an offer. I tell him it is a deal if he will throw in a minor card from the trade list, which he mentioned that he wanted to sell the cards on there cheap if I saw any others I like. So then he PMs me that the card is very sentimental to him and he is leary of letting it go so cheap, and he is the one who priced it and made the offer. He needs to sleep on it. Then I check my PMs and he tells me he is going list the card on eBay. So much for being sentimental.

I feel like RonBurgundy when he had the thread about the guy that was jerking him around on those sets.

I do not care if I spend a couple days and a bunch of emails trying to workout a deal and the other person decides to pass; That is cool sometimes a deal just falls through. But when someone makes me an offer or counteroffer and backs out of it, that send me into a ramble of a thread like this. To everyone else I have traded with lately, this is not about you. Most everyone I deal with is great.

The same thing happened to me with a house I was going to buy recently. The seller kepy me on the line for nearly a week saying "I have a previous offer I'm considering". My offer was his asking price for the house. Then he tells me he decided not to sell after all. GRRRR, I just said have a nice day then and hung up, knowing he was about to tell me how the house was worth more money.

Stories like that where you really appreciate the smooth deals that much more. Just finished what I would call a perfect transaction with someone through an ebay auction. In the end we worked out a deal that we felt was in the best interest of both of us. I even got some quotes from him to use for an announcement on my site.

Hi guys. I am the jerk in question. I really did not intend to jerk Allen around. And at the time I did not think I was. But in hind sight I defenately see why Allen feels this way. It was a blunder of errors on my part and I feel a miscommunication between the two of us. I'm new to trading and have been out of the collecting loop for a few years and just recently decided to get back into it. I'm still a little naive when it comes to these things and it showed up in our negotiations and my bailing on the deal. Please don't hold this against me. In the future I will try to do a better job when it comes to following through with a deal. I have had some very positive transactions on these boards and I hope to have another chance to redeem myself in the near future.

I can accept the apology and that's great...but like my momma would say..."Actions speak louder than words!"...

I'm trying to make it right. I have agreed to the deal if he still wants it. I have also asked for his address so that I can send him a couple of the cards that we talked about free of charge. I don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? Other than go back in time and not be a douche bag?

Chris (Cwazzy) is a good guy. He is new to the game, probably got in over his head a little bit. Not trying to justfiy what he did, because I would feel the same way Allen feels. But I do think Chris is an OK guy who just made a mistake.

Chris, I think the least you could do is give him your first born. That baby in your photobucket will do just fine.

I think Allen's reaction to this whole thing was compounded because of what the first guy did. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I doubt Allen will harbor any ill will.

I don't know about the first born but I will tell my wife that we need to practice making more babies in case he decides he would like the second one.

cwazzy did appologize and offer to put the deal back on the table or send free cards. There is no need for any of that. I accepted his appology and hold no grudge against him. I think that like he said, he is new to the loop and still learning the ropes in trading and negotiating. I had no intention of calling him out or draging his name through the mud. Lee is right about this just compounding my frustration from what the first guy had done and I just needed to vent a little on the board. I know some mentioned going through with the trade, but I do not want him to feel like I have forced him into a trade that he does not want. Thanks to you guys who gave input or spoke of your good trading experiences with me.
