72 topps FB packs and gum size

Hi all, it is very good to have found this board. I hope to contribute as much as I take away.

I have some ungraded 72 topps FB packs that look legit based on my limited knowledge. I got them off of ebay last year. I opened one and the cards were in fresh and great shape, things looked OK. But, the bubble gum is slightly smaller than the typical gum size I see and recall from other topps packs of that era - including other 72 FB packs I have picked up. So, does anyone know if topps used different gum sizes for some packs back in 72? Or, is having the smaller gum size a bad sign for me? I look forward to any and all blunt responses.

Thanks

Rick

It has been a good year and a half since I opened one of those but I remember the gum is a different size than normal. I also remembered it foamed in my mouth when I ate it.

Rick, which 10 cards did you get? I can then give you an educated guess if the pack was legit or not.

Im curious as well, what did you get in the pack.?
    1964 Topps Football
  • Yepremian 115, Nordquist 102, Babich 89, Barney 42, B. Smith PA 127, Briscoe 30, AFC Receiving Leaders 5, Griese 80, Adderly 66, West 53.

The cards look reallly good. I can tell the rest of the packs have the same smaller gum.

    Thanks.

Here is the centering on the Griese?

  • The centering is 50/50. The corners are not quite perfect under 10x. I think this card would grade 8 or 9.
