OT: Visiting LA and San Diego next week!!! Any advice will be appreciated

The woman and I are flying out to LA to visit her brother next week. We are going to drive down to San Diego to see Sea World and the zoo also. Does anyone have any advice about good things to check out or places to eat that are not that well known but really hit the spot. Cool scenic roads are on our must do list also. So any advice from all you Californians would be appreciated.

Children's Beach at Scripps Park in Lajolla has many sealions and huge wave breaks along the jetty. Forever Fondue a few blocks away (?Prospect St) serves some unique tasty vittles.

Insane Diego; Dog Beach is a nice take. Casa DiBandini in Old Town has fabulous Margaritas and the food is good too. Hotel Del Coronado is a magnificant old building. SeaPort downtown is a nice walk-around with a few bars. Dick's Last Resort is a good laugh. Also if you like meat, the Brazilian Grille is awesome. Of course the San D Zoo is top notch.

I don't recommend taking a female (you care about) across the line to Tijuana image
  • You gotta stop in Ocean Beach while you're in San Diego and get some fish tacos at the place next to Sunshine Co. on Newport Ave. Hodad's has a great burger, too. Once you're done grab a couple of talls from the corner market and drive a bit further down Sunset Cliffs Blvd. Pick any spot and watch the sun set, it is amazing. I got married out there on one of the cliffs along Sunset Blvd. in March, it was great. Wish I could go back now that it is 95 and sticky here in Chicago.
  • South Beach Bar and Grill in Ocean Beach (best fish tacos in SD), SD's best burger joint isRocky's in Crown Point (South Pacific Beach), Pacific Beach--walk down Garnet Ave to the ocean. Garnet Ave is loaded with bars/restaurant/shopping. PB is kind of young. The infamous Del Mar Race Track, Torrey pines area--walk the cliffs over the ocean--great public course too. Saska's in Mission Beach--great down and dirty steak place. Wild Animal park--less congested than zoo. Not the variety as zoo. Downtown gaslamp district, walk to Pet Co park for baseball. Small music venues in Gaslamp are 4th and B and the House of Blues. Great restaurants in HillCrest. You can try Little Italy as well.

    HillCrest.

If you drop your wallet in the Hillcrest District, kick it all the way to Carlsbad before you bend over and pick it up............

I'm a big fan of the view from Mt. Soledad at night.
As for scenic drives I recommend Torrey Pines/old Highway 101, starting at my alma mater UCSD, north through DelMar and the little beach towns of Encinatas and Leucadia ending in Oceanside.

Visit the town of Julian! while in san diego, I lived there for ten years. Great food, small gold mining town in the 1800s shops, stay away from crowds of downtown traffic, parking etc... enjoy the mountains stop by the julian pie company world famous! ask for dave tell him the volleyball guy said hi .... a must visit.

Just wondering...Del Mar is a great place especially if your SO isn't into horse racing. The SO can spend the day in the sun on the beach while you take in the races and the er...people watching. Let's just say the horses aren't always the most beautiful sights at Del Mar...

Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com

I really do not know what your point was with the "dropping the wallet" comment or PasadenaMudSlide's "KY Jelly" reference, but as a member of the gay community, I found it to be personally offensive and disparaging.

Hopefully the forum moderators read this and can explain to me why comments like this are allowed. I am sure if a board member made an offensive inappropriate comment about race, religion, or gender the thread would go *poof* and hopefully the one making the comment would go *poof* as well.
