Fantasy Football Draft trade opinions wanted..

perkdogperkdog Posts: 29,536 ✭✭✭✭✭
I drew the 9th pick overall (12 teams)

My first 4 picks are/were 9 16 33 40

The guy who had the 12th pick traded for the #1 pick ( he gave up 12th and 13th for the 1st and 9th round pick) he then traded #1 for my 9th and 16th pick and moved me up from #40 to #36 so I now have #1 #33 and #36 and his 10 round pick. Obviously I will take L.T and will wait until # 33 for my second pick and #36 for my third round pick. The way I see it L.T will most likely score more fantasy points than anyone I could get at # 9 combined with #16, follow me?

Opinions please...

While its great to get LT, I probably wouldn't have made that deal.

Leveraging your risk is what I've always been successful with, and to me it seems you are risking your season on LT having another MVP year. I love LT's work, but to have no picks until #33 seems harsh.

If I understand the trade correctly you got #1 (1,000 points) and #36 (213 points) for #9 (428), #16 (315), and #40 (163). So, using the Jimmy Johnson methodology, you traded 906 points for 1,213 points.............you made out well. Great trade.

might work out for you, who knows at this point. Obviously your going to have to get another running back, probably with your second pick, and then either a WR or QB with your next pick, dependent on who is left then.

LT carried me to the championship last year... so if he stays healthy your looking good. there is always a decent qb to take in the later rounds. the running backs go so fast. so i think you made out pretty good.

Just using ESPN's draft predictions, with 1 and 33 you get LT and Jerious Norwood, or with 9 and 16 you'd get Brian Westbrook and Marvin Harrison.

Me, personally, I'd feel better getting a solid 1st and 2nd pick than having a stud 1 and a third/fourth round guy.

    Great trade for you image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

have you done your draft already? Or just set up picks? It will be interesting to see the players who go at 9 and 16, as opposed to who you get at 1 and 33.

The draft isnt until Aug. 26th, we just get the draft order out of the way so we can study. All points well taken, I realize I am banking my season on one player so I understand the risk involved but I think there will be some talent at #33 and #36 for me, I will have to go with the best position players that are left at that point.

LT is great but you have to wait a long time and a lot of good players will be picked and some youlike will drop and then be picked before you finally pick again
i think the guy you traded with made a good move he traded 12-13 and ended up with 9-16-40 (slides back only 4 picks in the 3rd) and picked up an extra 9 in a deep 12 team draft.
i would have rather have the 9-16 or the 12-13 picks because if something happens to LT your season is over, picking that late you will never have the depth to overcome that injury.

    just my 2 cents
good luck, i can't wait for my draft

As Bosox said, it is all about the point value.

You can't expect a repeat of last year, but there is no substitute for a near guarantee RB. Even all the running backs in the late first round/early second will have dobuts. Almost every year, about half of those guys either lose their job, or just are ineffective. You can't count on them.

Look at the points...will the number 12 and 13 running backs score as many points and LT and whatever scrub is put there next to him? Odds are that you can find more than a scrub at RB even later than round three to accompany LT.

    For example...

LT is projected from Rotowire with 1,900 total yards, and 20 TD = 317 points in the typical league.
The number 12 and 13 guys are probjected for a combined total =410 points in the typical league.

I will say that the LT projection is basically a lock and is a safe projection, and it isn't unrealistic for him to come close to last year, in which case he would outscore those two backs by himself.

But wait, who would LT's partner be?

Running backs #25-#30 range from 165 to 141 points.

Any one of those guys coupled with LT will do better than the 12/13 combination...and you can get one of those backs even later than round three.

It is very realistic that LT and a waiver wire pick will outscore the 12/13.

    You were wise.

    Agreed.

Every year there are a couple of players who emerge from obscurity as fantasy forces, like Jones-Drew last year.
