Live bust. Just busted a 1954 Bowman 5 cent Pack

I know I know. But I only paid 300 for a GAI 8 wax pack so what the hell.

    Nice cards!
Someone needs to tell Layne that he is playing football, not bowling and someone needs to give Brady a karate kick to the cahoonas.

NIce cards. I wonder how many times Brady had to kick before they got that shot?

The Ollie Matson in the scan looks like it has a bump on the top left corner. But its a spect of dust from the scanner. If centered it would be gem mint.

What does the gum look like? Cool cards.

I don't even want to say what Brady looks like he's doing...

Pretty good pack player-wise. Centering not so great.

    Pat PSA 8
Layne PSA 7 or PSA 9 OC
Lou PSA 7 or PSA 9 OC
    Zeke PSA 8
Dick PSA 7 or PSA 9 OC
    Vito PSA 7

They're mostly OC, but why else would you open it if not to grade? Christmas ornaments?

I would grade the Zeke, Matson, Groza and Layne and hope for 7s or better w/ no qualifiers. You'll have a hard time getting your money back but you definitely won't take a bath.

    thanks for sharing.

are you using proceeds from all the fine psa graded cards you just got back to finance this endeavor?

don't listen to barry, he's mad he wasn't busting the pack instead of you.

he's kind of a hater if you haven't noticed...

There's a good chance that Layne was sauced at the time. He probably did think he was bowling.

I got it so cheep because the guy didnt list it as a 5 cent pack. So everyone thought it was a one cent pack. Just one other guy saw it.
    I dont regret opening it.

There is NO way I could leave a pack like that alone, I would have busted it myself. Nice cards

I'm here to say, for whatever its worth, that I'd open the pack too. If you're a pack collector, that's fine. I'm not, I'd open it. Granted, the cards were a little off center, but the thrill is what we pay for. That's what it was about when I opened my first packs in 1979 and that's what it's about now. I don't do football, but those are still damn cool cards.

A few years back I cracked a 1967 Topps Grocery cello hoping to hit a Mantle. I didnt but I still have most of the cards from that pack. It brings back a fun memory.

Not opening it would be like not opening a christmas present from the 1950's... nice cards! They all need to be slabbed, regardless of the centering, in my opinion.

I opened a 1 cent 54 Bowman FB pack years back as it was a GAI 7 but the top was eaten away/disolving? Didnt see it like that in the auction pic.... Ugly eye appeal so I opened it and the cards were warped from water damage or something. Also had a GAI 8 and gave it to my Dad. He still has it unopened displayed. I think I paid $80ish for each of them. Even though I got junk, it was fun and I'll do it again.

Congrats on getting a cheap pack. I think there's some law that you must open a pack if you get it cheap.image

    Thanks for sharing.

18 years ago i bought 4 packs of 54' bowman for about $25-30 a pack. The dealer dared me to eat the gum i told him for $50 i'd do it. It was chalky and gritty and disolved when it hit my tongue. Easiest $50 i ever made lol. most of the card were very very sharp. Plus i bought 2 more packs with the proceeds image

pulled a tittle, hirsch and a van brocklin in my 6 packs. sold em all later that year and the wrappers too. they were decently centered too!
