Nice ebay seller

My ebay message to seller :

Hi. I would like to offer you $540 delivered for this card. That is higher than any other sale for this card since I have tracked it for the last two years. Please let me know.

Mike

His reply:

one went for 745 about 2 weeks ago so i think your tracking is a wee bit off.
take your 540 and put it where the sun does not shine. Do you feel me?

Gotta love classy ebayers. needless to say I have blocked him and will never bid on his stuff.

Was this on an active auction or an item that had a "Best Offer"? Some people dont take friendly to those who ask to end an auction early.
  • smallstockssmallstocks Posts: 1,702 ✭✭✭✭
It was an active auction with a minimum bid of $590 which has not been met yet. I actually made the offer last night without even thinking about the fact that it was sort of asking to end the auction early.

That is classless for him to say. what is his ID?

I really don't see what's wrong with his reply.

He's nicer than I would be if I felt someone was sending me an insulting offer.

keep track of it and when it dont sell email him back and say 'can ya feel me now mouth', i do the same thing sometimes though, just depends on what side of the bed i get up on and how many stupid qustions ive answered before ive had my 1st beer, like "how much is shipping to 58975", -i always reply twice as much as is says on the auction just for you!

So who was right, him or you? Was $540 the most in the last 2 years, or did you make a "mistake" and one sold for $745 2 weeks ago?
  • CDsNutsCDsNuts Posts: 10,092
Sure, he's kind of a dikk. But if he feels like you're lying to him to get a good price on the card, I could understand his attitude. Is he right about the card going for $745?
  • Well if I had been the seller you would have got no reply and a trip to my BBL. I hate people asking to end an auction early.

While I can't defend his attitude, I can understand it to an extent. One thing people don't stop to think about is just how many e-mails come in all the time with best (i.e. worst) offers on items that are not listed as Or Best Offer. Annoying and time consuming sifting through them all the time, and worse still when they include info about what the "correct" price should be. Lousy response by this seller, I agree, but your e-mail may have just been the straw that broke the camel's back. Just my 2 cents (will not accept 1 cent on this opinion image )

My mistake was that when I made him the offer, I thought it was from a BIN only and one that was just sitting on his ebay sight. I admit that mistake now. However, responses like that are uncalled for no matter what. I have feedback of 100%, so it should have been clear that that I am not one of the many jerks out there.

As for the history, I tracked the cards selling history for 2 1/2 years until about 6 months ago and my numbers are correct up to that point. If one sold for alot more recently, then it is my bad. However, I for one as an ebay seller do not make a point of insulting other potential buyers, even if they do ask a stupid question. That is simply bad business and classless. Period. I guess alot of people have alot of anger.

100% feedback is no judge of someone's character so I fail to see how that alone shows this guy that you or anyone with perfect feeback isn't one of the many jerks out there?

So now I have this straight.

You emailed him an offer based off of sales from the past 2 years.
He emails you and points out one that sold 2 weeks ago for nearly 1/2 again as much and politely tells you to pound sand.

You post the story on here expecting everyone to jump his case.
2 people ask you if the seller was correct about the sale 2 weeks go.
You now admit you haven't tracked the card for the past 6 months so it looks as though he may indeed be correct.

I would almost bet he has blocked you. You should have doublechecked his statement and then bid on it for 590.00.

I'm all for jumping most of the scumbags on ebay when it's warranted but in this case I don't see how it's justified merely because he sent you a reply you didn't like.

i think i have about 500-600 nimrods on my blocked bidder list now,way too many to count that for sure, some for being smartaxxes, some for stiffing, some for just being downright stupid

I have no problem with people asking me to end my auctions early. I know that it's usually because they think it'll go for more and hope I'm not aware, but it's within their rights to ask and I don't think I've ever accepted one.

If you had realized this was an online auction, there would be nothing wrong with offering him $540 if the card got no bids. I've had that offer many times and accept it often. There's no way he would end an auction with a starting bid of $590 to take a lesser amount. Why wouldn't he just let the auction run its course to see if he could get more, and then sell to you if it doesn't? He's already paid the listing fees.

Goose, point taken. I guess I am different though then most of the people on this board, or so it seems. I would have pointed out my mistake just like he initially did and left it at that. I prefer not to hurl insults at people. He didn't politely do anything. He can block me all he wants because after a comment like that I would never bid on his stuff anyway.

CDNuts - I totally agree with your comment. That was my mistake not realizing it was just a regular auction. Lesson learned - don't jump on ebay late at night when you are tired and then try to throw some __it at the wall to see if it will stick.

    that's fine.

I just don't think it was that awful of a comment.

Actually, I agree with your assessment of his comment. If it were a card show and he had it marked at $590 and you said the same thing to him, you think he would've said the same thing in person to your face? Probably not. Just another child who turns into a tough guy behind the keyboard. If you wouldn't say the same thing in person, then you shouldn't try and act like you have big stones over the internet. I've played online poker against people who have made comments that if they were made in person, I'd end up spending the night in jail. But they would never make the comments in person.

I had a card with a Buy it Now of $250 and somebody offers me $100. I told him that wasn't nearly enough, but thanks for the offer. That's about the worst thing I'll say to somebody who I feel is making a lowball offer.

He could have simply ignored you or said No Thanks, but he chose to be a rude d!ckhead instead. You're probably better off not dealing with him anyway. JMO.

I agree with you. I do not care how low an offer is, that is no excuse for a seller to be rude.

I actually received a reply from "her" a little while ago:

sorry for the sarcastic remark, but i've had 16 emails with lowball offers. was getting tired of them.

I told her apology accepted. I also apologized for lowballing a live auction.

As a seller, what's the difference if I get 10 offers on an auction? How much effort does it take to say, "Thanks, but I'll pass." At least it shows there's good interest in what you are selling. For a seller to get offended by too many offers is ridiculous. I know people don't like to end auctions early, but the one guy you are rude to (like this seller was) could be the one guy who really wants your item, and will pay the price for it eventually by bidding in your auction. Even if he doesn't win, his bid will help the final selling price. But, if you offend him - don't be surprised if he doesn't bid at all.

The OP knew about the $745 auction, and was hoping the seller didn't. If you want to include us (the CU members), then just be honest with us instead of telling us half a story.

You clearly say in your OP that "I have tracked it for the last two years", not up until 6 months ago I tracked it for 2 years. You bluffed and got called on it. Don't come boohoo-ing here because the seller was mean to you. You got busted by a seller that knows what he has so just smile and move on to the next card. Or take a break for 6 more months and then quote old prices to another seller. Whichever works for you.
