PSA Grading Help

My father just gave me his collection of baseball cards. 1000's of cards spanning from 1954 - 1993. I want to get some of them graded. I have never gotten anything graded in my life. What are the necessary steps to take?

After reading PSA's website, I'm a little confused.....
1. Do I have to pay for a Gold or Platinum membership first?
2. How much per card? Does every card vary in submission price?
3. Service type is a little confusing. Any card with a declared value….. what? Who determines this?

For example, just to name a few, I want to grade
1954 Topps #250 Ted Williams
1955 Topps #50 Jackie Robinson
1956 Topps #5 Ted Williams
1956 Topps #30 Jackie Robinson
1956 Topps #31 Hank Aaron
1959 Topps #564 All-Star Mickey Mantle
1960 Topps #563 All-Star Mickey Mantle

Basically, how much will it cost me?

Sorry about the total newbishness of this topic, but hey, we were all a little green at some point, right?

Thanks in advance

you do need a membership to have cards graded. you get 6 free submissions with your membership.

unless the cards you mentioned are very high grade condition wise they would all fall within the 6 free memberships and also the $13 special this month (fee is normally $15 per card but the $13 special is offered about every month).

you declare the value of the cards. that part is mainly used for return shipping and how much they are insured for on the trip back to you.

    hope this helps.

Declared value has always been an issue on these boards and with PSA. I personally would use PSA6 value for the cards from that era. If you know they are in better or worse condition I would adjust from there. For example if the you had a 54 Aaron with creases it might be worth $500 compared to a NM-MT Aaron might bring $3700. You would send that in even though the PSA6 is well over $500. I would send any of those cards in with the free grades unless they are MINT.

  • If you can, post a scan of each card. You'll probably get responses from the members on what type of grades you're likely to get and they can help with what type of service you should submit under.
With the 6 free submissions, each card needs to be less than $500 in value.
