    Nike dropped him too.

Not that I think he didn't do it, but what happened to that whole innocent until proven guilty bit?

None of them dropped Kobe when he was accused of rape...

The evidence against Vick is far more damaging and concrete at least with regard to his involvement with killing dogs and dog fighting. On the other hand, who knows what went on in that room with Kobe and that girl; she went up there at least as a willing participant, a much murkier situation.

Actually a few sponsors did drop Kobe or opt not to renew his deals.

When I read that they would not have Vick cards, it screams "RARE VICK ERROR CARD IN NEW UPPER DECK PRODUCT"

These are companies not a court of law. Their responsibility is to make money. If any person at that company, be it the janitor or the high profile spokesperson, is costing more money than they're bringing in, it's the companies duty to the stockholders to eliminate that person. Fair or not, this is the classic example of "it's not personal, it's business."

    A carefully constructed legal case
put together by the Feds over a period of years equals Vick is toast. He will do time.

The Kobe case was a "he said, she said" involving a loony-tunes girl. No comparison ...

Applies to crimminal consequences only. Private companies/individuals can think/react however they want. The busineses are just reacting to market considerations. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.

This case is not like a guy getting busted robbing the local liquor store, or even the LAPD swarming OJ's house. This was a long-term federal investigation. Those cats do not mess around. I have seen investigations that lasted many years with co-conspirators being picked off over a period of many months. This was not a case of hit the lights and gather up the pieces. It looks like the investigation was running at the same time as the crimes. That is a world of difference from investigating a crime after the event. It was most likely methodical and meticulous. My guess is that they have Michael by the short and curlies. I would not at all be surprised if Vick enters a guilty plea before it is all over.

Everybody having anything to do with Vick is running away from him like he has open herpes sores. I can't see the card companies trying to capitalize on this situation because it would clearly result in public outrage. The problem with this whole Vick thing is that while some adults can relate to what he was doing (I'm not one of them), how can you explain to a kid that Vick owned dogs and took pleasure in watching them kill other dogs? This might be the worst public relations nightmare for any athlete in this era- even worse than OJ.
  • Yeah, the government doesn't mess around with inditements. It's not like a search warrant, where they have to have a little evidence to have it granted, a federal inditement is serious stuff.

I agree Wolfie. The big difference in this case is the DOGS can't tell their side.

At least in Vick the Dick's case, there actually is some good evidence against him. It's not like in McGwire's case where all we have so far is rumors and Canseco's book, yet the HOF voters apparently think that's enough to find him guilty. image I still think McGwire is only second-best as far as eligible players not yet in the HOF; Blyleven will always be first.
