hey man that made my day you bought that auction- it is nice to see something that another board member may want and sure enough you DID want them.

I have 8 Ripken F FACE cards I have bought over the past 6 months at 5-8.00 each and I do not remember this card(with the slit) as a kid. It was a auction I just stumbled upon!

if you would want to sell one of the twelve I would pay 8.00 for it! let me know I will paypal you and perhaps if he has multiples of other errors I would like to buy one if that will help you not have to buy 12 at a time!

Fantastic that the seller claims to have the largest collection of "Ripkins" in the world.

    I thought two things

    1) this is 1989fleerBillyripkencollector
    2) this guy is not our man and has no idea who the true king(1989fleerbillyripkencollector) of that card is and maybe #2 but NOT #1

  • Yeah I dont need 12. Heck I have one and that is all I really need. I will keep a few for trade or for a collector needing one later in life. I will flip them all and probally (hopefully) make $5 on each so I have a little 89 Fleer rack case $$. Though my last few have been bust so I sell the remaining boxes and in the other 2 boxes there was a scribble saw cut in each box. Sadly I must sell the bulk as I cannot afford to "sit" on anything and most the time when I add a "keeper" a have to sell something. Like the auction I just added image Sorry to cary on, I just dont want others seeing me selling one later in life thinking Im collecting these to pay my cable or something.

After I bought them and looked at his about me I know him. Good guy. Used to be a dealer. He has tonsof cello cases but wont split with the, For the grandkids. He has 2 items I really want a sheet and a rack but last time we spoke he wanted ALOT and it way way to crazy even for me to pay. Example. I paid $500 for one version once. Anyways from what I remember he had a few racks and I think another Double Die FF saw cut.

Thanks for the tip. PM info I'll get one out to ya.

I WISH I could afford that. A DDie FF sheet. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

He's posting racks tonite I want-er need. I have 4 versions on racks. Ohhhh do I need money. Seriously thinking about selling my Star Wars unopened 80+ trooper collection.

I bet the Star Wars collection is a way better investment- I feel the Ripken stuff he is just hoping you will panic and buy it at his prices.

I have a feeling they will go unsold but who knows for certain! I think you are better off trying to find another one! there is so many 89 fleer items out there that there just has to be one we can find you!

that is hilarious I was trying to find his auctions by going to his store and typing in RIPKEN and not a single item came up and I was puzzled?

I wanted to see those racks he was putting on tonight!

LOL! he is hoping our guy will pay the price for that sheet and I feel certain there are some out there that people would GIVE AWAY if you wanted them. It is just a tough thing to look for because so many people think 89 fleer is junk and do not bring them to shows!

I don't think he will sell them if he keeps misspelling Ripken. I searched his items for Ripken and found nothing.

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

I think I'll hang on to the ones I have. It sounds like RipkenCollector will sell you one. They are interesting cards but very easliy counterfeited.

Id gladly pay $100. I passed on one at $200 and now I cant get the seller to respond to my emails as I want it now.

Yeah $500 is crazy. Plus if you GAI it the Ripken will be upside down.

As for the Star Wars vs. FF investment. I wont ever sell my FF,Star Wars or Russ Martin (Dodgers) unless it was to buy the other niche or to help the family. When I buy these I dont look for long term.

He MAY be doing it on purpose- some people search for misspellings aka Mickey Mantel for deals and if misspelling ripkin is good enough for card companies???? Dunno

They all pop up easily if you type rip* in the search. There are so many bad spellers out there - I'm glad eBay has the * wildcard to catch some of the mistakes.

  • Thanks for the * tip. I didnt know. You know how many spelling variations saved searches emails I get ?......lol

Whats odd is way back when, the seller was selling another Ripken item. I told him it was mispelled but I guess its hard to teach a old dog new tricks.

That is what I was wondering, how hard would it be to take the original FF card and do that to it??
  • Thers one thing I know but I cant share and its not definitive but its helpful.

Basically know where you get them from. This seller is legit as I have seen some very nice Ripken stuff that he has. Sheets,Double Dies etc. He used to own Just Rite coins. A large advertiser in mags in the late 80's. He has a few uncut panels from the 60's incl Mantle on one. I used to have pics but erased them.

Tell me he didn't write on this rack...

    image
  • No its written on the holder.

Whats a bummer is I have 4 racks with versions showing all GAI slabbed so I NEED this one and my dumbend sold my FF rack way back when.

White Scribble Saw (GAI 8 .5 maybe)
FF Saw (GAI 8) (upside down image )
    F scribble (GAI 9.5)
Black Box (GAI 8 .5 maybe)

That white scribble rack was offered to me before for $1000 so it diiiiiiiiiid come down in price. LOL I want that one too but $500 ??? Maybe I'll bid teh $499.99 and save a penny. LOL

His 3 things on ebay are nice and Id love to have all 3 but hes about 3-6x too much overpriced IMO.
