PSA/DNA question

Why are some cards slabbed and some are not slabbed and come with a LOA?

I have always put a note on the sub form saying "authenticate and slab". I really dont know why someone would not want a auto card slabbed.

  • I can only give examples from the shows I attend so I'm sure these aren't the only reasons why.

There are instances where the card could be used in a larger display so they wouldn't want it encapsulated. There is a segment of people that don't care about the card, only the autograph. There are times when we are at a show offering authentication services but not card grading services, rather than submit the card to come back to the office and pay return shipping, they choose to just have the autograph authenticated.

When people are submitting a licensed trading card that has been autographed, we do give people different options. Card Grading & Authentication service (Red PSA flip), Autograph Authentication and Encapsulation or just Autograph Authentication (COA/LOA).

I know when we are at a show the staff will confirm to the person that the card will have a sticker placed on it. If a licensed trading card is sent in to PSA/DNA, and encapsulation hasn't been requested, we've been known to stop the order and double check with the customer to be sure that is what they want.
