Can I get some computer help please?

Is there a way to log onto Windows without a password?

On my laptop I have this thing where you swipe your fingerprint and it logs you onto windows. Well, I uninstalled that program and now when I turn the computer on it's the regular screen where you click on the username and type in a password. I don't even remember if there is a password since the fingerprint thing has been on there since I got the computer.

did you try leaving the password blank?

Well how did you post this thread then? Hmmmmm?

Sorry, can't be of any help. Obnoxious humor is all I can offer.

  • Yes, I tried leaving it blank. A bubble pops up with something about forgot password, but it doesn't give me an option to click on anything to recover forgotten PW or anything.

Lee, I booted Matt off the desktop computer to post here. He's sitting in the livingroom pecking keys trying to get it to work image

  • Jim, I tried the delete thing twice and it did not work. It stayed on the log in screen.

MM, there is no cancel option.

I can remember what happened 20 years ago, but ask me something that happened 15 minutes ago and we're experiencing operating difficulties . . . please stand by . . .

Hmmm, which brings me to , I'm surprised nobody ever made the contest : GUESS MY PASSWORD : image

I'm great at guessing yours , but not mine . .

Step 1 - pick up the laptop.

Step 2 - carefully place it on the front lawn.

Step 3 - have Matt run over it with the mower.

Step 4 - repeat as necessary. image

Actually you may be able to restore the software setup to a previous state. I think XP allows you to go back to a certain date and restore. If not then you could possibly get the program from the laptop back up disk that you should have received with the unit.

I don't think this will work but...

Try pressing F8 non-stop when the boot screen comes up. Should take you to a menu and then load windows in safe mode.

Edited to add: Do the link ^ and that should cure what ails you image
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Did you try just hitting the escape (Esc) key? This should allow you to bypass that screen, you just won't be able to access anything that is password protected.

    Otherwise, try these sites:

    pcworld
    smartcomputing

  • Woot! Got it fixed!!

I tried the safe mode thing listed in the link from Wick, that got me logged in where I could access the control panel. Then I just changed the password. Restarted and I am back in business!

Thanks for all the help guys!!

BTW, I have seen that pic of the Beavis look a like before, one ugly dude.
