Third Reich Coins

Howdy all -

I'm new to this forum. I normally hang out in the US Coins forum.

Anyway, I've got a question...

I've got access to:

3rd Reich
5 Reichsmark
Luther (1933) - ADEFGJ

3rd Reich
2 Reichsmark
Luther (1933) - ADEFGJ

What I'm wondering is: If I build a 12 coin set of these (in a nice holder) in UNC/MS grade. Is there much demand for this? Sure they're scarce.. but does anyone buy them?

Thanks,

BN

The Luther 2 Marks are not “easy” to find in nice BU, but they’re available from time-to-time. The 5 Marks are quite scarce in nice BU, particularly the “G” and “J” mints, at least in my experience. Can you post any pics?

3rd Reich coins are collected by quite a few people, but they’re probably not as widely collected as many other coins. I collect 3rd Reich by type, and the 2 - 5 Marks by date / mint.

From your post I’m not sure whether you are considering buying the coins to collect, or to sell. If to collect, buy 'em if you like 'em; who cares about demand?. If you are buying them to sell, it's JMO, but I think they’d probably do better if sold separately, rather than as a set. I’d think that most interested collectors will have already acquired at least some of the pieces for their sets. Personally, I need only the 5 Mark “G” mint in nice BU for my set. -Preussen

  • It is my experience that there is a buyer for any coin you want to sell. My opinion is that you would do better selling the pieces individually.

I'll check this evening for any pics I might have from my collection.

No, the "Gold" (plated) crap (JMO) you see for sale is recently plated and not original. -Preussen

  • I mainly buy for investing purposes, but enjoy the study of them a little more than collecting. After all if someone offers me more than I paid for it... it's sold.

Right now I've got a line on a BU 2MK Luther 33-F, for 85$ USD from a trusted source, though I'll need to do a little research to be sure that's a good price on it. I've given him notice to grab all mint marks in the 1933 Luther 2 and 5's, but only in BU/MS grade.

    We'll see where it goes.

    Thanks for them replies.
