Canadian small cent question...

Just got out my Canadian cents again...I used to have a complete set, and just bought another one to pick out any upgrades I could get. Last time I was into these was early 90's, and now I'm a noob again image

I've kept my canadian coin collection to just those that could be found in change(circulated), but can't seem to find any definite info on the different mintmarks, or letters(W&P). Were all released? Or are some proof or mint set only??

I've bought one book, and looked through a couple others, and even found one or two web sites....just can't sem to find a definate answer image

    Welcome to the greyside!

The W is for Winnipeg. The P is for designating the plating process. Both started in the 1998-1999 time frame. Some are only available in collector sets.

The catalogue you need is Charlton Standard Catalogue. North American Coin Prices will have most of the same info but in US$

Great book I have the 61st edition and thanks to new RCM logo it is completely out of date.

At Amazon they have it for less Charlton 62nd.

Until you get an up to date Charlton pop over to www.jandm.com 's catalog section (Small Cents - Elizabeth II 1953 to date) for a list of what's come out. I refer to it all the time.

PS - Welcome back to Small Cents!

I turned my daughter loose with several tubes of Canadian Cents I'd pulled from change to see how close to a complete set we could get.
At the time complete was 85 coins. She found 68. On a trip to Toronto I got her the key dates for Christmas. A few purchases locally and a couple trades and we are complete through 2005. Looks like we'll have to visit a dealer or a show to get things up to date.
