1960 Leaf set question?

handymanhandyman Posts: 5,347 ✭✭✭✭✭
Why are there not that many set collectors involved in this set. It has a overal nice group of HOFers and there are not that many cards in the set. Are they too hard to find? I was thinking about putting the set together, I have about 60 cards from the set in high grade. Any thoughts?

I think it's the black and white images that keep people away. It's a nice set, undervalued IMO, and not hard to find in really nice shape. Unopened packs and empty wax boxes are easy to find as well.
Add in the variations if you're looking for a degree of difficulty, or the big head variations if you're really looking for a challenge.
Can't imagine this set will stay this reasonable for long, probably wouldn't have if it had Mantle and Koufax.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

It's missing all the major stars of the period. Nothing against Brooks Robinson or Duke Snider but it is very short on HOF players for a 60's set. If it had some major set registry stars it would be a good set, never great due to it's boring design. I owned PSA 8's in Bob Friend and Brooks Robinson. I thought it was undervalued and picked up the Brooks for like 150. I sold it for the same price a couple of years later.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set

I dont mind the Black and white as long as they are centered and clean. I have a 50-50 Sparkey Anderson with 4 mint corners but it has a few dots. I think its one of the best looking cards that I have.

I think it is a great affortable set on par with the 1963 fleer baseball set...Sure its a bit lite on major stars but I think it has upside potental once people start looking at it. The 2nd series is considered high numbers and when graded high do bring nice prices..
