Is this worth the price?

I have been offered a roll of 20 of these for a few dollars over current melt.

My question is, if I keep a couple for myself could I recover the rest of the cost on eBay?

    May I suggest this

See what similar coins are selling for on Ebay
Multiply that price per coin by 18.
Add to that amount Ebay fees.
See if the total of those two numbers is greater than what you have to pay for the roll.

    Its that simple.
  • Very good advice and i thank you.

Since I am buying these in Norwegian Kroner and the dollar is weak against the kroner right now, there is a pretty big spread.

Of course i wouldn't mind holding the roll for a year or 2 but, I have no idea where the price of silver is going to go.

    Thanks for the input

I can't help you there image

Be sure to add any Charges/fees for money conversion $ to Kroner and overseas postage to your equation !!

    Good Luck
  • Thanks for all the advice. This is the first time I have ever considered speculatiing on a coin(s) so I real new at it.

I would be buying it in Norway, in Norsk Kroner so exchange rate isn't a problem.

Maybe since the dollar has drop approx. 10% against the Kroner over the last few months I should consider buying in the US and sell in Norway.

Of course it would! Thanks for the input

They are selling for around $19 each on ebay. Silver is $13. Profit of $6 per coin minus charges. I think Silver is cheap right now, MHO only. They have tripled in value in the last 10 years, as they were selling at bullion back then and now there is a premium. image
  • Thanks Boz

I get a little confused when I start thinking about speculating on coins. I buy a few now and then and I pay in dollars but it costs me the equivalent in norsk kroner.....no exchange fee large enought to even consider. With the Kroner strong now I get a good deal.

But, if I buy in kroner and sell in dollars........basiclaly the exchange rate makes a big difference.

See I told I get confused.

yeah, you might list them here and save yourself the ebay fees. sell the remaining ones that don't sell on ebay. best of both worlds!

I needed, and recieved good adivice from you all, as i usually do.

Newbie...you are essentially dealing with bullion here since the BU Libertads are anything but rare. I have three or four rolls of these in my safe that I bought at $5 an oz.. Since you aren't really speculating on coins but rather on silver I would suggest that you use the roll as a paperweight for a year or two as the price of silver will undoubtedly go up over time.

If the U.S., and subsequently the rest of the world, economies tank then these will be the right size for clipping into 1/4 ounce chunks or spending as is...precious metals will certainly go further than its paper counterpart.

What are you referring to, GDJMSP? It looks like an average Onza inside one of those Banco de México silver bank wrappers.

Just out of curiosity, i took an image of a '97 Onza and superimposed it on the one above:

    Seems to match-up.

What are you smoking Roman ??? image
  • That photo of mine was clipped from the sellers photo which also included the bank roll with number on it. I believe they are real and he is a reputable dealer here in Norway.

onza, libertad, they're all bullion... not that this is a bad thing....
  • HANG ON

I made a total mess of my calculations. I can buy a roll of 20 of these for about $14 equivalent.

    So I did

    Sorry about all that confusion

<< <i>sellers photo which also included the bank roll with number on it >>

And that's what I meant when said that it was rolled in a silver bank wrapper.

Btw, you could select the best-looking coin out of the bunch and submit it to PCGS. Judging by their Pop. Report - they haven't certified any 1997 ones, so whatever you send will be "Best Known" image
