Is this Perez-Steele Roy Campanella signature real? Any experts out there?

Hi Guys, I have been working on a PSA/DNA graded autographed 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration set. I currently have 34 different ones at PSA for grading now. I recently had a ungraded signed Roy Campanella offered to me. It is a post-accident autograph so it is hard to tell if it is real or not. Are there any experts out there that can show some light on this signature? Neil

  • Neil - I know close to nothing about autograph collecting, but here's a link to another Campanella signature. It's completely different than the one you posted, but I don't know if it's authentic or not.

  • I have a Campy auto in the 89 Celebrations set. I also have the complete set of 41 autos. I have tried to provide a scan, but don't know the correct proceedure.

OT Neil but do you have any Dodgers left from your '56 set break?

Hi Guys, Over the past few days, I have found that these post-accident Campy signatures can look very different and still be "real". My concern is how do I compare signatures and be reasonably sure that it is real? Also, if you send one to be slabbed, how can PSA be sure which ones are real while these are some many variations that are real out in the market? If Tony Summo or Bill Daniels told me they had one that was real, I'd trust them and buy it. However, who else might have one for sale and are trustworthy? I will need to get one sooner or later to complete my set. I'd just like to not make a $300 or more mistake. Any suggestions? Neil

    So Neal... Any Dodgers left?

Hi Perkdog, My 1956 Topps set is completely sold. I wish that I had kept all of the Dodgers and Yankees for my collection but the money was just too good to pass up selling them. Neil

P.S. The other guy spells his name the wrong way (Neal), the correct way is Neil like me ;-)

    Sorry Neil!

Perkdog, It's not a problem. I just thought that I would give Neal Kane a little ribbing. Seriously, if anyone has a signed Campy or knows someone who has one for sale or trade - Let me know. It is the last one that I need to complete the set. Thanks, Neil

looks like SOME of the post-accident sigs I have seen, but I would send it in for the quick opinion. If you specify a "rush" thy will get back to you later on in the day

How does a person do a "quick opinion"? Also, how much does it cost? Neil

I think it is 8 bucks, you can pay by pay pal. I am not sure if it MUST be an ebay item. Maybe you could call to find out here is the linky dinky do

Hi Guys, I just called PSA and they stated that the item has to be on Ebay. I can't just send them a scan or photo of a signature and get a quick opinion. Some other things that I learned are that the cost is $7.49 per item which isn't that much. Also, if after you win the item and you send it in to have the full PSA/DNA service, they will refund the $7.49 for the quick opinion. That's a pretty good service if you ask me. I just wish I could have used it on this Campy. I wish that he would list it on Ebay so I could take advantage of this service. However, then you have the whole Ebay fees and perhaps Paypal fees. Someone will have to pay those fees as well. It would almost seem that with all of the fees involved with buying and selling items over and over again, all of the "investment value" is being sucked out of the bottom. The only ones making any real money are Ebay. Paypal (same as Ebay) and USPS with their new higher rates. I suppose this subgect would make a whole new topic for the boards. Neil
  • Ask him to list it as a private auction for you on eBay and offer to pick up his fees.
