Friday Night "After a few Drinks" Purchase . . . Have you been there?

Have you ever awoke on Saturday morning after a bottle or two of wine and realized you may have been better off just going to bed? I am not sure if I'm excited or not but this looked really enticing to me for an AARON rookie card. I've had several straight 8's that did not have the appeal of this one. Should I have just went to bed? After Hours AARON Rookieimage

Very nice card but no matter how many drinks I have had I know better than to go on ebay.. image

Centering doesn't hurt so bad on the 54's because they have such goofy borders and the cards don't look right anyway. Nice card.

Any chance that card would come back a PSA-7 NQ?

Nice card, and as lee points out 54's look weired anyway. As for getting a 7 I do not think so. The top shows a lil white of the next card. What does a straight 6 go for?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Nice eye appeal!
But more than a couple of drinks and Ebay don't mix... at least for me. Nice card tho!!

I'm not sure I see the white you are speaking of . . . ordinarily I would never buy a card designated "OC" but there was just something about the look of this one, or maybe it was the wine I had.

At the very top of the card I see some white, not sure if it is the scan? or the next card. In any event it is a nice card and IMO I'd rather an 8 OC then this card graded PSA 6.

Steve, looks like the whatchamacallit inside the PSA holder. I don't see how the card could be cut that high considering the thin bottom border.

Did you pay too much for the card? Yes, you did but it's still a very nice card, and it sure beats doing something like playing online poker, losing $1,500 and then having nothing, right?

Despite the OC designation I still think it's a hell of card. Hell - you got an Aaron rookie card - they don't make too many of those anymore, eh? Wish I had your drinkin money my friend.
Just glad to be here with everyone.

The problem is, so does he

  • Wouldn't the 1954 cards have been printed one row rightside up and the next row upside down? That way there would be no top border, and why the color goes from one card to the one above it.

It's a beautiful card, and now you have an Aaron rookie. Sure, drinking and eBay don't mix, but at least you've got a legend's first card to show for it. image

I think I like this analogy best:
Did you pay too much for the card? Yes, you did but it's still a very nice card, and it sure beats doing something like playing online poker, losing $1,500 and then having nothing, right?Did you pay too much for the card? I use to like lawnmowermans humor, but it seems to be turning more to sarcacism . . . what's up with that?

Do you see where the bottom right side of the card tapers in? I have a 54 Aaron that does that exact same thing. I thought mine was trimmed! I am relieved now! I wonder what caused that to taper in like that?

Hey, worst case scenerio, put it back on ebay. You may take a loss on it, but you will proabably get a good % back. OR just keep it. I'm sure you have spent money unwisely in the past and will in the future.

My weakness is blonde strippers. All I get from those the next day are nice visuals to use for the rotation.
I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
  • After drinking and eBay, this usually arrives a couple of days later:

That card presents as well as most 7s. I don't think you'd ever win or sell that card for PSA 6 money.
  • 1960toppsguy1960toppsguy Posts: 1,127 ✭✭
I am actually happy with the card, as I mentioned in an earlier post have had several PSA-8's that did not present as well as this card. You must admit, it does have a pack fresh look which I really like.image

I actually was tempted to throw a best offer at that card also,It certainly does have a pack fresh look and for the money you won't get a nicer one.

By design there are no top borders to the '54's. It's a nice card of the true homer king. image
  • 1960toppsguy1960toppsguy Posts: 1,127 ✭✭
Investment? I buy cards because I enjoy collecting as a hobby. . . When I invest, I buy Mutual Funds. Baseball cards are not an investment, unless you were a schrewd collector 75 years ago, which would mean they were still not a wise investment as the card market peaked only once and has remained steady or declined every since.
  • how much are they paying for cardboard by the pound? just drunk again here and have 22 million common 87 topps to unload.image
