    I didn't think about that. Next time I see something on the bay, I'll check Amazon first....

    As the winning bidder, I don't mind paying an extra buck or two to some poor eBay slob image I look forward to reading the book...!!

    Porteous's Coins in History is specifically cited by Ira Goldberg as the spark that really got him interested in coins.

    It was also a major inspiration for Money of the World: Coins That Made History. Ira talks about Porteous's book in the preface:

    "The inspiration for this book began more than 40 years ago, near the end of my teens, when I read a book published in England by John Porteous, Coins in History. I was fascinated by the relationship of coinage to money and the historical importance of the role coins played.
