Are there any good dealers out there?

3 recent threads tonight:

"I Sold It not what it's cracked up to be..."

"Heads up for possible ebay scam...."

"SOME SELLERS ARE UNBELIEVABLE"

I hear a lot of complaints (most being valid) about dealers on these threads. However, I never hear anything about any good dealers! I hear about the good deals, but not about the the dealers themselves. In those threads about the good deals, I read comments like "Way to stick it to the man" or "Score one for the good guys!" Does this mean the sellers are the bad guys?

There are some good dealers out there! How about a thread to spotlight some of the good dealers. I'll start here and if you want to chime in, go for it. My favorite dealer is named Eddie Martinez of The Old Ballpark in Alvin, TX. I have known him for 17 years. Eddie deals mostly in wax and stocks very few single cards, most of those being modern. Being a vintage collector myself, I don't buy much wax from Eddie, but I try to buy most of my supplies there or anything else that I can. This is going to sound ridiculous, but Eddie is not in the business for the money. It's true, he doesn't need it. Eddie made his money years ago. Unfortunately, Eddie was severly burned in a work related fire and won a large settlement. He does it because he loves this hobby! I am not saying he doen't make a profit - of course he does. He still has to pay the bills. However, his prices are far lower than any other dealers in the Houston area.

Are there any good dealers in your area?

I hear this guy is real good. Hardly smokes any of his own stuff.

  • I just had a seller mail my 2 raw cards in a bank envelope. One of those envelopes you get from the teller when you withdraw $$ from an account. Paid $2.50 for shipping and the postage was .75 and a bank envelope was used to ship the cards.
Nice.... at least the cards arrived as advertised.

Was the bank envelope used inside of another or was the stamp and address actually on it?

Either way thats funny. You should leave positive feedback (since the cards were ok) saying something about the bank envelope

Ive had excellent dealings on ebay with the seller "davepattyfred". I have bought some 55s from them and have been pleased with the speed of shipping and communication.

    Very few.
  • You have to remember one thing about these message boards is just like in real life people only talk about the bad things. In any business you can upset one customer and they will tell 13, you please one customer they tell maybe one or 2.

One of those threads though has shown the seller is not that bad.
  • Bakersfield California Mikes Coin and Stamp

Makes his money off coins and has limited selection of singles/wax. Doesnt really care for them anymore. Doenst like the way the hobby headed but still carries some product for "us"

Prices on newer high end packs sell for more more as he doesnt follow prices so his $70 pack of Bowman Originals sold for $50 when I asked. Throws in free packs for my kids when they are with me, never charges sales tax under $50 or so etc etc. Shopped with him for 21 years on/off.

That's worse then my cheap purchase off Ebay I made for 5 or 6 graded cards from a notable board member here. At least they were shipped in a bubble mailer, but I was charged $5 for 77 cents in postage that was on the envelope.

5.00 for 5 or 6 graded cards is pretty fair IMO especially if it was single card auctions. Regardless of the postage paid. .77 sounds very low even if it was before the latest rate hikes. many sellers self insure and maybe part of that 5.00 went towards that.

    Good for you.

A guy I really like is psa-set-guy. He used to go by duke4life. Johnathan's prices are good, shipping is fair and when he has lots of Emmitt or Troy cards he always hooks me up with great deals.

    Definitely my favorite ebay seller

This is too true. I imagine most of us have 1 bad purchase out of every 100 or so transactions. We only care to complain about the bad ones.

An eBay favorite of mine is Mitch Rosen (mm4cards) - sells mostly high end 1930's PSA baseball
