Hand Cut Cards and PSA

How does PSA grade hand cut cards (i.e. Post, Hostess, Bazooka etc.)? Can they ever be given a "minimum size" disqualification? Or will a bad cut simply affect the grade it is given? Also, what is an ideal cut? Is it just outside of a dotted line, or right on the line exactly? Any info. is appreciated so I can make educated guesses at grades.f

  • PSA does give some information on hand cut cards under the Grading Standards section at this link.

Scroll down past the numerical explanations and you will see The Grading of Hand Cut Cards.

I can tell you that on Post Cereal cards PSA will only grade cards that have the black border showing all the way around the card. If any part of the card is cut inside the border, the card will be graded as Authentic and given a credit of (1) one if used for the registry. As far as the grade goes, once the card is cut, they look at corners, edges and surface just like any other card. It is very difficult to find these hand cut cards from the early 60's in Mint condition. Most where cut by kids with dull scissors.

    I hope this helps.
