I have to admit the first time i read the title to this thread i thought you were referring to someone like Fidel Castro's brother-in-law or that there was some punchline waiting in the post.
It must be rough to be Mark Cuban. "I'm getting bored with my Championship contending NBA team. Maybe I'll start a football league to compete with the NFL. Or perhaps I could purchase one of the most storied franchises in Baseball." Someone, please give this guy something to spend his money on.
The only way I can relate to is trying to decide if I need new socks or underwear more, cause I ain't affording both.
I do agree though that he would be interesting in the MLB. I'm sure him and Selig would get along great.
Sure, he can buy them and you can look forward to him feuding with umpires, suing his manager, and creating a team that perenially underachieves and then chokes on the big stage at the biggest moments. Come to think of it, that last part sounds a lot like the Cubs (unfortunately) so he might be a perfect choice.

This would not be good for the Mavericks. I can see the Mavericks getting less attention from Cuban now, as he spends his money on the Cubs. Sort of like the Stars and Rangers, after Hicks purchased both teams. They both have done nothing since Hicks took control of both teams.

Yeah, come to think of it the guy is a bum who has never done anything successful.
Go buy TB's franchise if you really want to help an organization on the brink.

Say what you want about Cuban, but his only goal as owner of the Mavs is to have a winner, which is rarely the case in pro sports. Since he bought them they went from irrelevant to a contender year in and year out. He hired good front office men who have made great draft picks and signed big name free agents. What more could you want from an owner? His only mistake was not 'overpaying' Nash.
Sure he's a doofus and often acts like a jackass, but his passion is at least directed towards a common goal between him, his team, and the fans which says a lot. He's like some schmoe who one day gets rich and buys a sports team because that's always been his dream. Hell, if I won the lottery and bought the Orioles or Ravens, my team's fans might view me the same way.
No doubt Cuban would make them more consistently competitive. But in the end he meddles too much, becomes a sideshow himself, and winds up making a fool of himself and the team.
As for the Cubs today, I sat dumbfounded over the winter as they made foolish move after foolish move, from hiring a past his prime manager over Joe Girardi to signing a strikeout machine in Soriano to overpaying for the pitching they bought. They are lucky that the NL Central is bad this year, but the fact is nobody on that team is as hungry as any of Milwaukee's players so they're not beating the Brewers absent an absolute meltdown.
I like the Cubs and want to see them do well because it would be great for baseball and their long suffering fans, but it's further away than ever right now.

So ya think he'll sit in the dugout every game, or just build a special seating area on the field for himself. That guy is seems oddly intrusive (not really, I know he's just very "into" his teams).

I'm not a huge Cuban fan myself, the guy is a prototypical 1990s multimillionaire. He had one good idea (broadcast.com), made it work and then got some idiot company (Yahoo!) to overpay for it in the dot-com frenzy and became an instant billionaire.
However, if fate had smiled on ME in that way I'm 100% sure I would have done the same thing - only in my case I would have tried to buy the A's and Sharks. I do admire the fact that he (and Paul Allen of Microsoft as well) took their money and put it into things that they truly enjoy.
True, Cuban has a big mouth, a big ego, and a need to rub the "establishment" the wrong way, but there is no doubting that he loves basketball.

Considering I know personally one of the other bidders I think I'd rather have Cuban.

Sounds like someone we know.
But to say his teams perennially underachieve? Uhm, do you remember what the Mavs were like before he became the owner?
