As soon as you can - like next week - get in your car and drive 100-miles from your city house. You will find stuff to buy that you CANNOT even imagine.
The small-town antique stores are FULL of paper stuff. Nobody EVER asks to buy it. Tiny little towns with speed-traps on the main drag are the best. (Few of the folks I am visiting have ever used EBAY; some do not even know what it is!)
The little drug stores - yes, they still exist - have tons of cards "stored." LOTS of common sealed boxes from the early 90s, but I remain optimistic.
No. I have NOT found any super-valuable cards for a dime, BUT I have found 1000s of paper items that will sell nicely online. Tons of GREAT postcards; many good/old photos; political and sports letters; lots of bulk-silver cheap.
LOTS of autographs on BBs. All priced as though they are real; most are not, the rest I dunno ---- I have bought NONE.
I have shipped three HUGE boxes home. I have another almost ready.
I am thinking that since it was such a project to get here, I will keep on trucking at least through August. It has been years since I traveled around America; I might even buy a part-time place to live, somewhere in the Northwest. I cannot believe how cheap little houses are.
The signs that say "Craft Show" and "Church Sale" are definitely worth checking out. CHEAP !!!!!
I only setup at one small show at an Oregon strip-mall. Lots of work setting-up, and all I did was buy stuff from other sellers. I am going to do a WA "all collectibles" show, in August. Nebraska is a very nifty place; tons of SUPER bargains in the tiny towns.
I bought a laptop with WIFI, but hot-spots are scarce. I am in a motel with a dial-nine phone and a NETZERO "trial."
Sunday is not a good biz-day in the small towns. Although church picnics are all over the place. Very little commerce, though.
I may head back toward Montana. I am avoiding the Southwest, but I want to try northern OK. I also want to get serious in Wyoming. So many places, so little time.
Fires in Idaho were VERY creepy. Some good stuff there, though.
Few folks know about "graded cards" ANYWHERE I go. I am staying out of the cities.
There are some little boomtowns in America; and, there are some busted ones, too.
The whole trip reminds me of when I was doing the same thing as a ute.
Some folks are suspicious, and some are completely open. Almost everywhere, the folks are super friendly once they hear my pitch. Also, the little restaurants are very cool; foxey little waitresses everywhere.
Well, that is about all I can think of to report.
I will get back to you, later.

Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
Sounds like fun. I've often thought how cool it would be to basically just drive around America hitting card shops, antique stores, pawn shops and flea markets looking for cards, but I never made the time. Also, for it to work out financially it makes sense to have a good general knowledge of what has value, like coins, postcards, guns, paper, etc.... It seems like storm knows his stuff so I'm sure this will be a worthwhile venture for him.
yes that would be cool to do,i do it with military shows in the summers but only for 4 or 5 days, driving across coutry is something i havt done for a long time, hijerry west, he grew up in west virginia not far from me,i did not know he was the image of the official nba logo till not too long ago! formerly ,up by cabin creek, now vienna,wv randy
A couple summers ago my wife and I traveled through Montana on the way home to OR from CO. We absolutely were amazed at the unusual selection and great prices of stuff. I found and purchased my first (3) B18 Blankets in an antique store in MT and quite a bit of other sports-related ephemera.
