So, is this the kind of set YOU'd like to collect?

1969 Amazin' Mets Auto Set
It started with the Baseball HOF Auto Set Registry Set. Once I’d got that off the ground and begun collecting autographed baseball cards in earnest, it soon occurred to me that I’d like to collect some cards that meant more to me personally. And even as an 11 year old Yankee fan living in NYC in 1969, I had fallen under the spell of the Amazin’ Mets. I remember sneaking my tiny transistor radio into summer camp to listen to those crucial June series against the Cubs.
The great attraction of compiling this set for the Collector’s Showcase was the chance to select the players I felt belonged in a 1969 Mets set. I had already started to collect a 1969 Topps Mets PSA 8 Set but it included players who had little or no role in the team’s success: Kevin Collins (16 games), Al Jackson (6), Danny Frisella (3) and Bob Hendley (0). So using the Baseball Encyclopedia I was able to pick the 25 players (plus the manager) who made the most significant contribution to the season AND the post-season. For example, Donn Clendenon only joined the team in June but ended up as World Series MVP.
I made sure to choose only cards where they were pictured as Mets. The late Cal Koonce was the hardest to find, the late, great Gil Hodges the most expensive. I’m particularly glad that the 1970 Topps set is so well represented – not only because most of the photos come from the ’69 season but mainly because it was the first set I tried to complete as a kid and that quest to complete it got me back into card collecting many years later.
So is there a team of the past – or the present - that you’d like to build an autographed set of?

Although I'm a football fan, I absolutely love the concept. I have the #1 NFL HOF auto'd set and have been toying w/ creating various themed autograph sets...such as the All Times Dolphins auto'd set (mirroring the players in the card set) or the Greatest Rushers All Time auto'd set or Greatest QB All Time auto'd set. There are so many great combinations!! Thanks for sharing.

Greg M.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.
looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started
I'm doing that with the 1998 Yankees. With the advent of the autograph insert cards, its a little less challenging, but it can be tricky tracking down cards for guys that didn't have inserts.
Here are a few:
I am a big autograph fan and I am currently trying to get my collection of cards signed. I collect Magic: the Gathering cards - it's nonsports, I know, but I can appreciate how hard it is to get an auto and what a great connection it is when you get to finally chat with the person and they sign your card
If I still collected baseball cards, that is definitely a set I would do
Take it easy,

Ray Thiel (1964-2007) - the man who showed me more wonderful games & gaming sessions than I ever dreamed possible... you ran out of hit points too young, my friend.
tkd7 - those cards look great ... and some strangely familiar. Watch out in the next couple of weeks for a RIDICULOUS Yankee auto set I'm working on.

I just looked through your '69 Mets collection. It really looks cool. All you need is a Mr. Met auto.
