If you want to add a "banner"-type image to your signature, you can do it via your profile, using

tags, just as you would in a post. However, if you want to add your own image as an icon, to be displayed above your board name to the left of the screen - you have to create one, following the sizing requirements and upload it during "icon upload day", which is on the 15th of every month. You can do that by going to your profile, where that option will appear on the 15th.
Thanks farthing, It's a 1937 3d on a thin Nickel flan. It's at the royal mint at present and hopefully they will get back to me soon with an appraisal. The obverse is very strong so I suspect that a lot of the apparent wear to the reverse is weak strike. It has a very canadian 5c look to it which could explain the flan and to me it's too 5c to be a 3d on incorrect flan, perhaps a trail piece?
