newlywed here !

So, I took the plunge and got married this past saturday...7-7-07 ( I better NEVER forget our aniversary with that date !)

Wedding went off just perfect, it couldnt have been a better day.

I went back to work monday and have until we leave for the honeymoon next thursday.

Id love to hear any advice from happily married board members, as I am sure there are many. These days any help to make things last long and happy cant be a bad thing !

LOL Im a happily divorced boardmember! My advice is very simple Brian..

    1-FORGET ABOUT OTHER WOMEN
    2-TALK TALK TALK
3-LIMIT the time you spend playing sports, going out with the guys, going to the gym, computer, fantasy sports, card collecting
    4-TALK TALK TALK
    5-Remember WHY YOU LIKE HER!
    6-TALK TALK TALK
    7-BE BEST FRIENDS
    8-Get along with her parents
    9-Did I already mention Talk?
    10-Have fun TOGETHER!

    Good luck and best wishes!

    Good advice Perk !

Can any of us really forget other women though ? I prefer to think I can look but not touch !

As for her parents, I get along with them absolutely perfectly. So well that 3 days before the wedding they actually told me to run and that I could hide at their home and they wouldnt tell her ! I of course said it would be no use and that she would find me image

I dont go to the gym, my sports are limited to golf once in a while which she never minds, and my card collecting probably wont ever get in the way. She grew up being dragged to card shows by her father, and he spent more in each of those trips than I will spend in 3 lifetimes. I should definately be safe there too !

Awesome man! Congrats! Just remember, like sports, you're a team. Don't let anyone or anything come between you and your team. From now on, it's you and her (and the kids if you have em). The health and heartbeat of your team is the most important aspect of your life now.

    Advice? Hmmm!!!

Well always remember that she's right and your wrong. And that if anything goes wrong it's your fault. And when talking always pay attention and look in her eyes and not at her chest. image

When buying stuff, it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.
  • hone up on your peripheral vision skills. Never get caught looking.

She ever asks you if she looks fat in an outfit, for God's sake, don't ever tell her yes. For that matter, never ever buy a scale.

Never answer her if she asks you if you think her sister/friend/actress on tv is hot? And if you do always tell her no.

    Congrats bri!

congrats....I'm taking the plunge in 3 months myself.

Is anyone else like me, who when they were graduating college, figured they'd be married with a kid or two by age 30...and then 30 came and went and neither happened?...no compliants about my life path though...in fact, if I could do it all over again, I'm not sure I'd change anything.

Was married when I was 23, wife was 21, had our first kid 1.5 years later. I want them out of the house sooner than later. Both my wife came from families where our parents were older when we were born. We wanted to have our kids when we were younger.

Congrats Brian. Your wife, she is the pizza girl correct? If I remember correctly her family owns a pizza parlor.

Anyway, thats great to hear. Tonya and I have been married 9 years and it sounds like a dumb cliche but it really does get better everyday.

    Good luck!

Get on your mother in law's good side...never know when you'll need her support....helps to have her on your side....father in law usually comes around a lot easier.....especially if he indulges in similar vices....beer, baseball, football, wings on Friday...I think you get it......also washing the dishes once in awhile, a load of clothes washed here and there (this sometimes work in your favor when you don't do them the way she would) and most of all GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I've been married 16.5 years to the Wife - my best friend.

    My only advice: Never quit.

Things will get tough - but they will eventually improve and when they do you'll be happy that you stuck it out together.

  • My advice is to listen to perkdog's advice. It's easy to tell you what makes a marriage work, but everybody has different ideas as all relationships are different. Not every situation is the same and what works for one relationship may not work for another. However, most of the advice of what not to do is pretty consistant. And he forgot to mention it, but TALK, TALK, TALK!

There is a song by Luther Vandross called, "Buy me a rose" that was previously recoreded by Kenny Rogers (and maybe by somebody else before that), but listen to the words to that song very carefully!!!
