vintagerookies

Does anyone else follow vintagerookies auctions/store?

He has quite the industry going with these BCCG cards. I'm pretty sure I sold him the Bird/Magic in this auction as a PSA 7 for just over $100 a while back (he has a separate buying account).

Bird Magic completed auction

Looking at his feedback it is really amazing what people will pay for Buy it Now/Best Offer BCCG cards. I feel bad for all the ebay newbies that make the "9/10" mistake without realizing that a BCCG 9 or 10 is not anywhere near the equivalent of BGS or PSA 9 or 10. At the same time it makes me wonder if I should start sending my nm or nm-mt star cards to BCCG just to sell on Ebay in my Ebay store.

I've bought some of his PSA 9 cards before at auction and he is very nice and easy to deal with so I don't have anything against him but you see these completed auctions and realize you could make some serious dough crossing mid-grade PSA or BGS star cards to BCCG holders. Does anyone on this board do this? Has anyone else thought of trying this? I have bunch of ungraded key 80s rookies (all sports) that are NM or so (not really worth sending to PSA) that I was contemplating selling raw but wouldn't even get half of what some of these BCCG 9s go for.

Looking at completed 1986 Jordan bccg or 1979 gretzky auctions or pretty much any key rookie card the buy it now option seems the way to go (and you will notice that vintagerookies pretty much has the market cornered). When you put BCCG cards up for auction they don't seem to sell for anything close to what people will pay for a store listed one.

Thoughts???

he ends most every auction early if there are no bids. he's missing alot of snipes doing it this way unless he's got an automated process to end auctions at 1 or 2 seconds before closing if no bids are present.

    Thanks,

He uses fixed price listings for most of his inventory, but one thing you'll notice is that he carries a lot of inventory at any one time. He gets more for all his listings, not just the bccg stuff, but it takes a while. So it just comes down to your budget and how fast a turnaround you need.

As far as BCCG goes, don't assume that he gets bccg 9's for every psa 7 or bccg 10's for every 8. You'll notice that he also lists a lot of those key rookie cards in psa 7 or 8 holders. I'm guessing those are the ones that wouldn't cross over favorably to bccg.

A long time ago, I noticed he had a lot of 0's surrounding his bccg grades. I assume these were cards that wouldn't cross since he would later have listings for them in their original psa/bgs/sgc holders. If he had cracked them out, then they would obviously be raw.

I'd like to try crossing some of them BCCGs to PSA just to see for myself how BCCG does.

The vintage rookie guy has some pretty nice stuff, and takes offers, so he's willing to deal. image

Don't feel too bad for the noobs who buy BCCG cards. They are happy, I'd bet. And their illusions are just as good as anyone else's.
It all means nothing in the end. You're either happy with the little number stamped on your card or you're not.

    Ignorance is bliss, of course.

I agree. I suppose Beckett's odd choice of numerous grading "levels" sort of caters to many different ages and preferences of different collectors. I prefer PSA though, as do many (even with some questionable grades I received).
