This is getting insane. Though it looks like for some player sets you will only need to have 1000 cards, for larger player sets. Well it would be nice if they also changed the free voucher system too. If your set has over 1000 cards then i think you should get more than what they currently offer for a 75% completion. A 1000 card set is a minium of $5000 in business. They could throw a few more free subs a persons way.

I agree w/ you. That knocks 90+% of the player set collectors out of the picture. For instance, I've been knocked down 5%+ percentage points on a few occasions when other collectors have added 10 or 15 new cards to the set. Even though I'm 95%+ complete on my basic set, there is no way to guarantee that I'll be even at 95% when the awards come around again.

    Wow,

I understand with the amount of sets out there PSA may be losing some coin to the free greades but the awards I think is what people want. Not the piece of paper but the trophy by their set name instead. I know I see some sets with 4 years or more and I think it is just impressive.

Another point to ponder. When you click on "Registrant's other sets" it would be nice to see where you are for current ranking too. All time is great in all but when MOSH retires a set no one is gonna touch it. Current Rank means everything to me and ATF Ranking does not mean as much to me.

    Greg,

It could be tough to hold onto the award for the HOF auto set next year. With how tough the last 10% of the set are it be tough to crack 90%.

Maybe we all need to write a note to Joe and BJ. I mean PSA spends nearly nothing on the awards. They are 99% paper and an icon on the web. Only those with HOF and set of the year sets get something tangible.

I am sorry but only 5 free grades for a set that could have over 6000 cards (like the Favre master) vs 5 free grades for say the 1988 Topps football set. I dont like that "reward" system. At a minimum the cost for grading would be $30,000 vs $1980. That would be if every card fit on a $5 special, which would be the case for the 1988 Topps football set, but not for the Favre Master.

    Jay,

I agree w/ you. Same w/ the Marino master set. 5 free grades is nothing compared to the money I've spent to complete the set to date. Maybe 20 free grades would be more in line.

I should be ok on the HOF auto set. I'm one card away from cracking 90%, and I'm in the process of paying it off as we speak (Greasy Neale). Other than that, my % should increase over time as I should have all the new HOF inductees assuming they don't elect someone like Fritz Pollard who is impossible to find. As a matter of fact, I already have autographed cards of most potential HOFers - both modern and senior.

It's on a 1923 Exhibit baseball card - it a very sweet autograph. I'll shoot you a scan when I receive the card.

I don't see why not. The same with Cal Hubbard who is a member of both the baseball and football HOF. I really don't think it would matter. Do you have a problem w/ it?

    Jay,

Another example is George Halas. He has a 1978 Grand Slam card which depicts him playing baseball (he had a cup of coffee in the major leagues...I think w/ the Yankees). If you had that card autographed (Jack has several of them) then why shouldn't it qualify for the football HOF auto set)?

    Greg,

I would have assumed that it would have to be a football card.

There are already cards in the set that dont even have the member of the HOF in the set that are included. I can understand for some of the owners that would be allowed but not for players. One can get a Buck Buchanon auto card on one of the pro-set commerative super bowl ticket cards.

I also agree with this. Showing the all-time does not make sense, especially when you consider sets 1-4 might just be the same cards.

I am glad you said something. I do not have a card registry ranked high enough to matter. But I do have a coin registry that got an award. I just barely met the 75% coin requirement. After reading this thread, I checked the new coin requirements. Sure enough, they went from 75% to 85% for next year. I better get to work filling some holes!
