newbie questions

Hey all. New guy here. Please be gentle. :-)

Alright, so I've been out of the card game for a while. I need a little help.
True or false.....
PSA & BGS are the only trustworthy grading companies?
Even PSA & BGS are not to be taken as 100% gospel? That is, to say, you are still dealing with human beings who are fallible.

Okay...and the bigger question.......
In the art world, everyone sort of knows where every masterpiece is. Is there anything like this with cards? I mean, if I wanted to find the only existing PSA 10 of a certain card, is there any way to find out exactly where it is, and if the owner is a seller?
I realize that people fear theft, and I'm not expecting to get a collector's home address or anything...but it would be cool to know where some of the more obscure cards are.

Thanks for the help!!

Hi Dallas and welcome to the boards!!!

While some people like BGS, I have found that their grading has gotten a little more flexible lately. I would say PSA and SGC (Sportscard Guaranty Company) are only real reliable grading companies for me. Even though they are reliable, they still make mistakes; so they are not to be taken as 100% reliable, they just seem to bring the best return in the aftermarket!!!!

If think the registry can help you out with who has what card. Not a of them, but a lot of them.

    Anyways again, welcome

  • PSA 10 - is there any way to find out exactly where it is, and if the owner is a seller?

I know on BGS you can look at the registry to see who has what. Probally same on PSA.

BGS- From what little I have submitted to them they are more lax when the subgrades switched to the front of the flip. I think that is when they sold the company. ?? Kinda like the differences in SGC ovals.

So have the more common BGS 9.5s gone way down in value since the grading loosened up?

I'm asking because the last time I took a peek at the biz several years ago, BGS 9.5s were consistently selling higher than PSA 10s. Has it switched back to PSA since then?
