Home Sports Talk

As we approach the baseball all-star break, a fantasy baseball thread.

How are your teams doing? Who was your best draft choice that you got on the cheap? Who should you trade because of a good first half and have no faith in the second half?

I will post mine shortly.

  • im in 4 leagues.

    1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

I picked up Hunter Pence and Fausto Carmona in almost all my leagues, same thing with Tom Gorzellany.

For the early part of the season Ryan Howard was killing me... he is on 3 of my 4 teams, but he has been on fire of late.

I drafted both magglio Ordonez and Matt Holiday relatively late and they have paid huge dividends. Jeff Francis i picked up off the waiver wire in most leagues; had Kenny Rogers and Clemens stashed on the bench till they returned from injuries.

Battling for third place only 2 games out of first in my division. Verlander in the 6th round is proving to be great value, Pujols # 1 overall has been a bit of a dissapointment so far.

10th and 11th in different leagues, yes I had Ryan Howard and he hurt me.

    2 leagues
1st in the one without money of course, small head to head league

5th (last cash spot) in a NL only keeper auction league, just traded dunn and turnbow for tavarez and wheelerm, i needed a couple of saves and avg and SBs, i'm first in Hr and dunn may go to the AL.

    best pick griffey $17
    best keeper duncan $1
    Fred

2nd, 3rd, and 5th . . . and the one I'm in 5th in is the one I'm most interested in winning! image

Best draft choice was probably Roger Clemens in the last round or Carlos Guillen very late.

Guy I'd like to sell high: JJ Hardy, probably.

Biggest disappointments: Ortiz with my first round pick and Hafner with my 3rd.

Most pleasant surprise: JJ Putz . . . and I just now realized I've got two guys on my team named JJ.

Too late to sell Hardy, I fear. His 15 minutes are up. Wish I had dumped him awhile back.

I'm in first in my NL-only league, thanks in large part to late pick Prince Fielder and a crack pitching staff of Hamels, Sheets, Lowe, Francis and Francisco Cordero. (I also took John Patterson, so there is a blemish on my pre-draft scouting.) Also picked up Ryan Braun and Corey Hart on the waiver wire not too long ago. The weak link on that team is Brian Schneider at catcher, not to mention the fact that Jason Bay now sucks. I've actually been sitting him behind a platoon of Josh Hamilton and Willy Tavares.

On the other hand, my Yahoo league has been a disaster. Think I'm in 13th of 16 teams. Howard's finally come around but I took Carpenter in the second round, Oswalt third, Dunn fourth and - oh man, I'm humiliated to admit this - Robby Cano fifth. We've instituted a keeper system, though, so I have hopes for next year. Top-3 picks are not eligible to be kept, so I'm on the verge of trading Howard for Bonderman and Billy Butler, who will probably join Verlander and Liriano/Jeff Francis (Round 19, probably my best pick in that draft) as four of my five keepers for next year. I have Yovani Gallardo as well but he's in the same keeper tier as Butler and I'd probably rather go with a position player than a hyped arm. Wish I had Pence, though. He's been awesome already.

One more thing: I deserve a kick in the head for giving up on Troy Tulowitzki too early in that Yahoo league. But I think he was in the same tier as Francis and Liriano so I guess it's just as well he's gone since I'll have a hard enough time deciding between those two.

As of today 2nd place in the Yahoo PSA League #1 and 1st place in my Yahoo Head to Head league.

My trade of Pujols and Rivera for Ortiz and Okijima seems silly but actually has worked out ok for me so far.

My PSA League team is way overachieving for how awful I drafted. 1st four players selected; Pujols, Andruw Jones, Rollins, Rivera. Only Rollins has had a typical season. I did well in the back half of the draft with Verlander 9th, Griffey 14th, Rowand 21st and Weathers 22nd.

Worst picks were Wainwright 12th, Freddy Sanchez 13th, Patterson 17th and Scott Olson 18th. Only Sanchez is still on my roster.

I picked up Gorzelanny, Kelvin Escobar, Kevin Gregg, and Youkilis off waivers.

I had Matt Capps on both teams but gave up on him getting the closer role too soon.

Mu best free agent picks so far have been Tulowitzki, Aaron Rowand and Mark Buehrle. I also grabbed Casey Blake who has been decent as well
  • Last Place with no chance to move up.

I am playing in four leagues this year, three of them with PSA members. I am in first place in two of those and 11th in another. the other league I am playing in, is a head to head league, and I am in third place by a win or two. I am confident I will win at least two of the leagues, especially the PSA league season II. Sorry guys but you might as well give up in that league!!!

My best waiver pick up: BJ Upton, Ian Kinsler helped out greatly earlier in the season and JJ Hardy helped out later. I was able to pick up SD pitcher Chris Young off waivers earlier, that helped me greatly.

My best Draft choice: Ordonez for sure

My worse draft choice: dye, Jones, and Jason schmidt. Carpenter has been taking up a valuable DL spot

Colebear I'm a coming for you!!!!!! Seriously I got lucky in that league. My pitching is #1 or 2 in every category but hitting is atrocious.

I will tell you man, there are a couple of times I thought you were going to catch me!!! I have lucked out in that league, my team started out of autodraft and I ended up with some questionable players. It will be a fun season though, by the way who is EA sports and where did he come from? Competition is fierce in that league
  • MorgothMorgoth Posts: 3,950 ✭✭✭
EA had me in third for about a week or about the same time I was in first. I do have hope that my team will hit better in the 2nd half. I will have to sit starters soon to avoid going over my innings. I always pick wrong just this week I sat Gorzellany and he won but Peavey didn't. Oh well who the hell sits Peavey over Gorzelanny anyway? Anyone need a starter?

Good luck to you as well. Even if I win you led this league for about 95% of the time so you should get alot of credit.
