another real class act on ebay

ok so i follow all psa 10 and bgs 9.5 1988 fleer basketball cards (one of my favorite sets) and i see this 1988 fleer jordan psa 10 here

psa 10

i do not bid given the sellers feedback but watch anyway to see where it goes. at the end of the auction the i see the bidders feedback and decide to see what he has bid on and discover its all this sellers stuff a definite shill here the items bid on by the winner

items bid on by winner

so i decide to report this guy for shilling and not to my suprise ebay says they find no evidence of shilling and do nothing. now the jordans back up for auction again.

relisted jordan psa 10

so why does ebay do nothing about this? i can't stand sellers who pull this crap. in the end hopefully what goes around comes around. thoughts?

Comments

  • maybe they felt that since nobody got burned, they would not do anything? I don't know how it could be more clear that this was a shill.

  • One of the secrets about shill bidding is Ebay will do something about it if enough complain, BUT they do not actively go after it because it generates more fees for them.
  • There have been several threads that reference this seller -- just run a search
Supposedly this seller is Gary Daggett

I clicked on Cavalier's link, not realizing that was his own promotion, thinking that was the link to the scam. LOL

What a jackass. It only takes a few moments to report this guy. Here's what I just sent to eBay:

This item was listed earlier, and won by an obvious shill account.

    Seller: stephaniescollectiblecloset
    Shill Bidder: opctrader

    Here's the earlier auction:230140508162

That winner ONLY bids on items from this seller. See here:
    http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidItems&userid=opctrader&completed=1&all=1&rows=200&sort=3

Thanks for your help with this. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. I look forward to your response.

    Wow,
I've won multiple cards from cavaliercards before (and have another one on my watch list currently). I had no idea it was another board member--always proves to be a small world.image
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Hey Cavalier--congrats on getting the Oden card. That card sold out realll fast.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Looking for Al Hrabosky and any OPC Dave Campbells (the ESPN guy)
  • Thanks on the Oden - when 3:00 hit the computer slowed to a crawl -- I thought it was going to lock up on me, he looks like the real deal.

Thanks Akbar -- just make sure you do more than watch -- you can bid as well image

I normally don't post -- just so much other stuff to do -- but I read practically every thread (that relates to cards) -- its so much stuff you have to be aware of and there is a nice level of expertise on here. Without the mail running today -- I came into the store to get caught up on paperwork and have pretty much spent the day looking at my fantasy league baseball teams and surfing -- so much for utilizing time wisely.

    When will this guy learn??
  • JeremyDie1JeremyDie1 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭
I emailed this guy. His response is he has three of these Jordans. He saids its easier to use the same pic for each auction.image
  • handymanhandyman Posts: 5,409 ✭✭✭✭✭
Not if you check around the verification number on the jordan. Looks like he only got a 8 and a 9 and 1 10.

I noticed he added a sellers note on the bottom of the listing. He basically says he has three available. you can pick the one pictured or choose the other two if available.image

I've witnessed the cavalier card guys in person and they don't use the best ethicsimage
  • You won't have much luck reporting it to eBay by explaining that your only evidence is that the buyer has bid exclusively on one seller's items over the past 30 days. Many legitimate buyers do this as well. eBay might not even bother checking into the details. What you should do is keep track of all the items that the buyer has won that the seller has relisted, and document it beyond the searchable 30 days. Even if eBay does crosscheck the two IDs in question, the likelihood that they share contact information is slim (unless the guy is a real idiot). Most shillers now falsify contact information on their shill accounts to avoid eBay's "shill software" (which, ironically, appears to only search for matching contact info).
