we are going to see the best year in baseball ever, when it comes to milestones and records. if everybody stays healthy

barry bonds breaking the all time home run record. (only person i like less than bonds is aaron)

sammy sosa and ken griffey jr.(15 shy) getting 600 home runs

frank thomas, alex rodriguez (8 shy) getting 500 homers

manny rameriz (18 shy) jim thome (16 shy) have a great shot at 500

gary sheffield (26 shy) with an outside shot at 500

craig biggio getting 3000 hits

roger clemens getting win # 350

tom glavine getting win # 300 (3 shy)

the second half of the season should be good.

not a big bonds fan but his list of awards are impressive

    1991 NL Gold Glove-LF
    1992 NL Most Valuable Player;NL Gold Glove-LF
    1993 NL Most Valuable Player;NL Home Run Champion;NL RBI Leader;NL Gold Glove-LF
    1994 NL Gold Glove-LF
    1996 NL Gold Glove-LF
    1997 NL Gold Glove-LF
    1998 NL Gold Glove-LF
2001 NL Most Valuable Player;NL Home Run Champion
2002 NL Most Valuable Player;NL Batting Champion;NL Hank Aaron Award
    2003 NL Most Valuable Player
2004 NL Most Valuable Player;NL Batting Champion;NL Hank Aaron Award

plus all-time home run leader and 73 hr in a season

we all know he has more issues than time magazine but that is what makes it interesting.

I am a big Bonds fan, again he may be just guilty of putting himself on a fair playing field with the majority of his piers but the talent has always been there. Staying on topic however I didnt realize this many guys were within striking distance of the 500 HR mark, sadly I think the 500 HR club is now going to be upped to the 600 HR club.

Baseball more than any other sport is about statistics when all is said and done. The most hallowed stat of all will soon be tainted
probably for a long time to come.

The 500 home run club does not seem to be that much of a big deal anymore, more of a yawner than anything else.

i disagree with the 500 club not being a big deal.

you have 22 players with 300 wins

you have 23 players with 3000 hits

these are automatic induction to the hall of fame

you are looking at only 21 players (including frank thomas) that have reached that milestone but now since espn and talk radio has beat this to death and now it is not important.

  • I hope someone puts a bullet in Bonds head at 754...Sosa is a disgrace to the HR all time greats.

The rest are fine with me.
  • While Bonds may have cheated, so did everyone else in the era he played in - including the pitchers. Also, isn't it intriguing that Clemens' career really took off after he hit 35, just like Bonds did?

    I'm not sayin'...I'm just sayin'.

It will be a great year for milestones.
  • Forget about Clemens, he's done! Greg Maddux will finish the season with more career wins than Clemens. He should be in the spotlight instead.

Wow. It's one thing to hope he injures himself at 754 and can't play any more. A bullet to the head? Wow. Just....wow.

Id love to see a 108 mph fast ball hit Bonds right in the arm brace blowing it up and rendering Bonds stunned for the entire 07 season.

It's not a great year when an avowed cheater and out and out jerk is about to break the most hallowed record in sports. Add in one more cheater reaching 600 and an overlooked but suspected cheater in Clemens (who was named in Jason Grimsley's affidavit to the Feds) and it's a sad year, not a great one.

At least solid guys like Biggio, Thome, and Frank Thomas will prevent it from being completely shameful.

    Bud must go.
