Marshall Fogel - Say it ain't so??

Did anyone else get the Mastro email?

I got an email from them this morning, saying they will be handling the auctioning of the Marshall Fogel collection?

Is he going to be selling everything? His is one hell of a world class collection.

Not in any order here, but just off of the top of my head, I am thinking the following greats presently in the hobby

Marshall Fogel
Charles Merkel
Don Spence
Jim Crandell

Who else am I missing?

Where does the email say anything about auctioning?
No such details will spoil my plans...
  • I guess it isnt so.

I just went back and read the email finally....DUH....

It just looks like a press release for an exhibit?

John Branca? He has some incredible cards
  • MOSH!
succesful deals :richtree, Bosox1976, Bkritz, mknez, SOM, cardcounter2, ddfamf, cougar701, mrG, Griffins : thanks All

    Go Phillies
  • Yea, how could I have forgotten MOSH. He actually has a nice chunk of what used to be my 1955 AA FB set in his set.

As for Branca, didn't he sell his collection? Or did he just get rid of parts of it?

I asked about Branca awhile back because I saw his 52 Mantle psa 9 being sold in auction but I was told it was an extra one so I dont think he sold his collection.

Branca, from what I recall, was selling his collection to re-focus on something similar.

    Larry Fritsch
    Don Lochious

    Both have great collections.
  • Yea, I have known of Larry in the hobby since I have been in it as a child.

Does anyone know if his collection is graded, raw? Registered? PSA...SGC??

I know he has been a dealer forever, but have never heard anything about his personal collection.

    Anyone have any details?
  • Mark Macrae and Larry Fritsch have the "best" IMO. All depends on what they have and if it appeals to you.

  • He gets a lot of flak for his high ebay prices, but I was surprised to see just how many sets Levi has his hands in:

If you've ever seen Levi setting up at the National, it is mind blowing. He comes in with boxes and boxes and boxes of vintage PSA cards. It's enough inventory that should require armed guards.

No doubt about it, it cracks me up because I have (attempted) to do bussiness with him at shows before and if you ask him for a certain card in a certain grade he is quick to say if he has it or not or what grade he does have it in. He knows EVERY card that he has it seems... which is pretty immpressive IMO

there are at least 20 guys that fly under the radar with amazing collections- just because they don't register on PSA's registry doesn't mean they don't have incredible stuff.
I'd put Spence and Fogel and Merkel in the top 50, but wouldn't want to narrow it further than that. There are some really incredible collections out there.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Chad Dreieier and Richard masson come to mind

Top 50 only? These guys are generally regarded as #1 and #2.

Then where would you put Davalillo, Soloway, Ireland and MOSH?
  • Two guys you probably never heard of.
