Tobacco Card Experts Non Sports Question

I went to an antique shop today and came across some interesting cards. Wasn't quite sure if I should get them though. They were T206 size and were deemed "1930 Popular Superstitions" and depicted, yes you guessed it, superstitions. There were 25 different cards and they indeed had a cigarette ad on the back, of course I didn't write that down. The cards were in Ex or better condition. Should I've bought these? They had a $50 price tag for the 25 cards. I've searched the internet but couldn't find anything. Oh, I got to hold a 1961 Topps Maris EXMnt condition..."I touched it, I touched it with my heart." Sorry I couldn't resist. They wanted $160 for the Maris and $350 for a 1965 Topps Mantle in the same condition. I did find a 1974 book about Roger Staubach. A book that I read when I was a kid which led me to suddenly become a Dallas fan 30 yrs ago.

Not sure what you mean by 'should I have bought these' however, what you saw was prolly an English set put out by Wills, or Carreras.

2.00 per card is about right. I am assuming you are right when you say they are from the 1930's. In 1900-01 the american tobacco company put out some sets like that too. I can only speculate on what you saw though. If they were the 1900-01 cards then IMO they are valued out 3 to 5 dollars per card in ex.

I think you should have bought them if you liked them. I can say that you were not going to quadruple your money on them.

At roughly 60% of high book on the Mantle and Maris, im assuming they arent rubes behind the counter there, and probably were pretty accurate with the pricing on the non sports cards. No "find" there in my opinion.
